We encountered a mechanical issue last Sunday and haven't flown since. David is going back to Texas via the airlines tomorrow and will be returning in about a week which is about when the airplane should be back in service.

Maintenance happens.

Scheduled maintenance is much better.
Only when it stays on schedule.

I had "scheduled maintenance" a couple of months ago that was supposed to take a week at the most. In the end, I was down for about 3 weeks, mostly because my mechanic hated the job. :mad2:

Hope David gets back in the air on schedule! :thumbsup:

what was the mechanical difficulty? muffler bearings went out again?

And it always happens when training towards a rating/certificate. The 150 I'm partners in broke atleast 3 or 4 times during my Commercial training. Overhauled carburator, check. Adjusted Idle speed, check. Repair of cracked baffling,check :eek:
 
I'm flying back to Lincoln on Thursday hoping for the plane to be fixed next monday

Maintenance does happen. And since David's not owned the plane for even a year yet (but has put a number of hours on it), it's not surprising that some maintenance has come up. It's taken me about a year with each plane to get it up to my standards, and then from that point forward it's just continuing airworthiness bits.

Oh, David, make sure that they top off your blinker fluid before you take back off. You wouldn't want to run out. ;)
 
How'd it go? Is the plane ready today? It will be easier to get "simu-IMC" now with it being darker earlier. I did most of my instrument flight training at night, after work, in the winter. Less visual clues with the foggles on, that's for sure.
 
The airplane was fixed this evening - but the weather is less than ideal for a test flight right now. We'll see if things work out tonight.

Going good. We got about 2+ hours of actual in the other night with a RNAV LPV down to 700 ft.

Use of white light in the cockpit at night is not recommended :lol: Especially flash photography :nono:
 
That paper reminds me of one of my simulated instrument flights when working on my PP. My instructor forgot his hood and I didn't own one. I did the "hood" time using a folded up sectional stuck under my headset. Worked fine as a view limiting device.

It's amazing how easily one can fly a RNAV LPV approach down to minimums with nothing but a turn coordinator and the GPS. All pitot static instruments, all vacuum instruments, and the tach were covered. It's just a matter of thinking about how you'd do such a thing and practicing it.

Sometimes I cover up more then what a realistic failure mode would be - but I do so to enhance one's ability to interpret instruments in ways they never thought they could before.

Merely from a point of curiosity, I ask how would it not be easy with a functioning GPS?

GPS these days have so many functions it won't be long before they provide in flight beverage service.

I had covered up every pitch instrument along with the tach. The only pitch data he had was GPS Altitude. Which works better then you'd think - but the fact that it was a 530W helped with that. Know your equipment.
