I’ve seen reports of that locally, the cops claiming they’re seeing speeding like never before. Well if the roads are empty it’s safer to go faster, but they just care more about getting money.

Speeding tickets are largely a racket anyway, especially now.

Yup. Oklahoma seems worse than most other states in that regard. Cops doing nothing in small towns off of US69/I-35/US75 just waiting for someone to pull over, I haven't seen it as prevelant in TX/KS/MO. I realize "protect and serve" is the unofficial creed for many LEO units, but I feel like much of the "serve" idea has gone by the wayside. I'd rather take 50% of the traffic cops and put them on violent crime task forces or community involvement. There are lots of great cops out there (most of them in fact) but they are forced to generate citations as a municipal revenue stream instead of focusing on areas of greater concern for their community. C'est la vie, I suppose.

I've seen a few people going WAY over the speed limit in the past couple of weeks!

And I've noticed more than a few going WAY under the speed limit in the past couple of weeks.

Perhaps many people just never learned to scan gauges.
 
We’ve been doing a lot of tree cutting. Not so much work on the runway, but trimming some trees that needed it. Our bonfire pile is enormous. We have trees that were the spawn of Satan. Note the spikes...

I started teaching my 7 year old to braze copper with a torch (welding copper as he calls it).

And put a new carburetor on the pole saw (that happened before the tree trimming). The old one got gummed up. Maybe Stabil is actually a good idea.

Need to do more bulldozing...

Around here, they are setting speed traps in places where you couldn't drive fast before this.

Same here! The fire pile exceeded limits, so yesterday I had an "I wish this bonfire was at Ted's" bonfire. Only one tractor, one child, one PoAer (me), zero gasoline, zero bulldozers, zero alcohol, zero semi trucks, and zero BBQ. :( :( :(

Our bonfire pile is truly enormous for this year. Of course the bonfire is delayed because of beer flu.
 
I had the scanner on today and DenverFD was dispatching on multiple illegal burns. LOL.

People are slashing and burning who’ve never done it before — in jurisdictions that don’t allow it.

Take care of yourself, make sure you get enough sleep, the work can wait. If you wind up with Covid-19, chances are you won't be getting anything done for a few weeks.
 
So far working from home(which is the same as before), drywall, drywall and more drywall, planted the 4 new roses I bought in the before-times and bought a new weather station that will hopefully survive the winds here for more than a year, now cleaning up the pole so it will maybe not rust away either.

If you're going to put a fence up anywhere around the property or think you might tinker with woodworking in the future, save the bigger trunks of those trees. Honey Locust is a pretty dense wood that can make good fence posts or furniture type stuff (once you get the thorns off, of course).

Woodworking is not in our list of things we plan on working on anytime soon. So, into the burn pile it all goes.

Also worth a post on your local Nextdoor or whatever. I’ve seen folks who need wood for stuff take away incredible piles of crap wood before around here. Especially folks who need it for heating. They’ll do all the splitting and sorting and stuff at home. Crazy what I’ve seen disappear.
 
And for yesterday and today’s report:

Took my fragile little immune system and life into my own hands and went to the country convenience store for ice cream last night.

Shaved yesterday for no real reason.

Today, decided to wear pants, again no particular reason.

Ate leftover spaghetti for breakfast.

And took more pills. Realized the bottle represents probably how long I’m stuck at home and it’s still really really full.

LOL.

Technically I’m working from home right now but haven’t clocked in yet. Pondering what unobtrusive stuff I can do that won’t risk breaking the company.

Thinking that hunting down the few machines that managed to get dragged out of storage and repurposed for people that didn’t install the security software quite right, or it’s not reporting that it’s installed, one by one and scheduling little remote access sessions to fix it.

People will enjoy a little break forced by their friendly helpful IT guy. “I’ll work on this for a few minutes. Grab a coffee. Want a funny virus meme?” :)

I have no idea what Nextdoor is and we aren't on it. I keep on hearing references.

Since we have our annual bonfire we're just keeping the wood stashed. But at this rate I'm looking for a fire truck...
 
Finished putting my kitchen, living room, and dining room back together. Installed rods and sheer curtains. Went through more of my mom and/or aunt's stuff in the condo; the stuff I have glanced at before, then decided not to do anything with it until "later". I have a lot more of this to do. Why did people think it was a good idea to use silver for stuff you eat or drink out of? Other than giving it away, what do people do with it? I know there are antique dealers in town, but that will need to wait for another day.

It's social media for neighborhoods. I signed up last year, I think it was, but I haven't been all that impressed the few times I've looked at it.
 
Heard a Dr. on TV saying in this time of Coronavirus staying at home we should focus on inner peace. To achieve this we should always finish things we start and we all could use more calm in our lives. I looked through my house to find things i’d started and hadn’t finished, so I finished off a bottle of Merlot, a bottle of Chardonnay, a bodle of Baileys, a butle of wum, tha mainder of Valiumun srciptuns, an a box a chocletz. Yu haf no idr how feckin fablus I feel rite now. Sned this to all who need inner ****. An telum u luvum. And two hash yer wands, stafe day avrybobby!!!
 
Fixed a large oil leak on the 182, thankfully I didn't find something like a cracked crankcase behind the oil cooler despite curious looking lines on it.

FEMA is ramping up for medical chaos here.

Job posting for anybody who’s had any real public safety dispatch experience — they want call takers and dispatchers hired and in place at the State EOC / South Metro Fire dispatch center.

Having been there numerous times and also having done those roles, I wish I wasn’t under strict medical orders to stay the hell home. I’d be there.

There’s not a lot of love lost between me and most bureaucratic government entities but SMFRA is really top notch. It says a lot that they’re staffing up with FEMA help.

Lots of phone calls, not much down time. Probably little sleep too. They have limited stay on site facilities there also.

Dispatch goes down sick, stuff gets screwed in a hurry. :(

Keep calm and push the PTT... move the gear... save the people. I miss it but don’t miss the awful paycheck.

I think that for our parents/grandparents generation having "nice" flatware and dishes was a bigger deal for special occasions. My mom has the silver flatware that we would take out a couple of times a year when I was growing up, but that was it. I doubt that any of it has seen the light of day in a decade or more.

One thing I've thought about as to a motivation for that was that in the old days, there were fewer things that you could spend your money on for luxury items and it mostly came down to nicer/larger residences, nice furniture/dishes/flatware, and to a certain extent nicer cars. Having "nice dishes" was a luxury that meant more in those days.

Nowadays there are a lot more things for people to spend money on and as a culture I think we'd rather spend the money on more practical items we can use. So things like that new iPhone, big flat screen TV, various high end luxuries on cars, just to name a few. Plus I don't feel like entertaining or having formal parties is something that's done as much anymore.

Honestly when my mom dies I'm not sure what we'll do with the nicer dishes.

We sold two of three full sets of China over the last X years. There’s some sentimental value but at some point we just never used it. We don’t even have a table big enough for 12.

That is probably what will happen to it. We started selling off some of the pices of old family furniture that didn't go with our decor, we didn't want, mom didn't want, and nobody else wanted in the family. At a certain point, you have to realize that you can't hold on to everything just because it belonged to a family member.
