Definitely. The early strait tail 172s were some of the sweetest flying planes Cessna ever built. I've got many hours in a 1956 straight tail 172 myself. It's still flying today with a freshly rebuilt engine.
 
This is particularly relevant to me, since I have a 1957 172 and with only 165 hours, my landings look sort of like this. <_< Thanks for the link.
 
I'm more interested in getting one of those nets installed at my home field!
 
did you see how the copilot without a shoulder harness ate the control yoke and instrument panel?

How the hell do people tear them out on skywagons during simple ground loops?

that gear absorbed a tremendous load. good stuff.

If we had the crash net at my airport, some of my landings would look better.
 
But what sets off the ELT? High G forces in any direction? G forces in from a hard landing (vertical) ? G forces from a sudden forward stop (horizontal)?
 
I've witnessed a hard landing setting off an ELT (from the ground, thankfully).

It's supposed to be 6 G's in any direction.

Hint: if you're going to do it, don't do that in front of 50 CAP members with a room full of radios tuned to 121.5.

I feel sorry for the owner of that 152.
 
I know somebody who failed a checkride by landing hard enough to set off the ELT.
