Another terror has been unleashed on the skies without consideration of fellow aviators. CFIs with less than 5,000 hours of time are signing the death warrants of unsuspecting student pilots, by allowing them to fly with no one else in the plane!

Congrats, Ed! That is a fantastic landing for his first solo. I'd be proud of that one any day.
 
Well looked a little flat to me but Wooooohoooooo!!! Dad Soloed and Ed didn't inherit anything!!! Thats good:yes:

Great job!! First solo for the CFI: all of the terror none of the control.

Students should not be allowed to fly on such a windy day solo. :hairraise:

I do need a tripod. Actually what it was is I was shivering. I was a bit chilly out.

I just started watching the video before I had read the rest of the thread... expecting something afoul. OK on takeoff.... seems OK around the pattern... then there's the scene where I see this tower-like object... and there's the plane.... oh no! He's gonna hit a tower! Wheww... not a factor! Then, a relatively decent landing. So, what's the deal? :dunno:

Ohhhhhhhhh......... NOW, I get it! Sort of goes back to that acronym I wrote at the top of the scratch paper on my IR written.... "RTFQ!" :rolleyes:

Congrats to Brad! But I can't imagine why you didn't solo him at 6Y9! LOL
 
Wow, very nice job!

I liked how he lowered the nose, rather than raise it, to make the aiming point on the runway. A lot of beginners might have done the opposite and gotten behind the power curve.

I had to beat that into him. He kept wanting to mush it in from 300'. Finally I had to force him to keep the nose down, and showed him that even if he doesn't get the descent arrested perfectly he's not going to die. We had a real solid landing, but after he found out he wasn't going to barrel through the runway his landings got a lot better.

Will his first XC be 6Y9 and over the lake?

You took the words right off my keyboard. I suspect that there's a bit of (well deserved) pride on both sides for each and each other.

I am curious as to Brad's view of the training so far Ed, can you get him to post that? Of course he might not want you to see this:).

Nice, Doc... Excellent musical accompaniment!

Had this home-based technology been around when I did my first solo so many years ago, they would have used music from Jaws. :D
 
Hmm, his flare seemed a little light... make him do 100 more trips around the pattern with you. :D
 
Congrats. I'm hoping with a few more ratings under my belt, I can teach my dad the same as you. Ya'll enjoy the time together.
