Job posting on Craigslist for some sort of developer.... Who's out of work and wont mind relocating?

EDIT: I don't know you, but 6PC, i'm lookin at you, dude!

Hmm, sounds like my kind of place.

Lessee…the posting is in Bay Area listings, but it's in San Diego. It says they don't care about anything. The pay is paltry compared to what an experienced guy can get in the Bay Area. The field of work is missing entirely. The relocation allowance is a joke -- missing a 0. You can only relocate for $2500 if you don't have any stuff.

They say in as many words that they don't care if the candidate knows what they are doing. The NSFW language is immature as heck. They are looking for a recent college grad who doesn't have a clue. Or else they are in a time warp from 1999.

I'll pass. Not impressed. SERIOUSLY not impressed.

I'll bet it's a weed despensary or a cover for Anonymous.

Range in cleveland for a large company institutional sr developer is 80-110k. That is not good pay for California.

What's the going rate in CA? $200k

Place is going nowhere, fast. But would be a good place to stop off for a while and drink beer and write crap code, until the investor money runs out.

I did get a laugh out of "email us code". Sheesh. Just go look at their code on GitHub. Email?

Exactly... Ergo:

They are looking for a recent college grad who doesn't have a clue.
I think you figured it out.

Note, however, that you can build a great company by running people ragged and then junking them. See: Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX). It's a rational, productive strategy, and it's up to individual workers to decide if they want to participate.

That they have a relocation budget at all is something. I would only offer it for a really hard to find skillet. Of course, I am up the hill a bit and people will relocate just for the lower cost of living. San Diego isn't cheap, but it is a really nice place to live.

What exactly would you consider a hard to find skillet? A hundred year old cast iron? Would a century of seasoning make it worthwhile?

gotta love autocorrect... :D

I fear many of you are taking this waaaaaaaaay too seriously.

Ah, yes... Actually I really like non stick modern cookware. Otherwise you need too much grease, but I sense thread drift here...

Oh, maybe not so much on the thread drift...programmers are sorta like skillets. They don't do much unless you light a fire under them. Some of them do needs lots of grease. Most of them try to be non-stick...

:D funny and true.
