I found these parts in a few boxes that were being thrown out at my airport today and thought they would make a cool lamp. My one problem is that I don't know how to wire a lamp and it looks like this would need some kind of base as well. Anyone here know how to make a lamp out of parts??

This is relatively easy stuff.

Here are a few examples, click on the photos for the links.

All of the cords and lamp parts can be cheaply bought at Lowes or Home Depot in the lighting section

That would be like, so disco!

Just send them to me Lynn -- it wont' match your decor. Thank you.

Well, I'm not sure this would blend very well into anyone's decor, unless your home is done in "Modern Airport". LOL. I was planning on using it as an accent light in my basement scrapbook space.... It's fairly eclectic down there and most anything goes. Tell you what though, Jesse... send me $200.00 and it's yours. It looks like that is what Sporty's is selling them for.

Hmm, how much would you people be willing to pay for a used, operational airport beacon?

Buddy has an operable 1000W tower top red beacon in his back yard. We call it the neighborhood disco party light. Mostly because it lights up the whole neighborhood. Red, off, red, off.

He's too chicken to set up the strobes. Something about not wanting to flash-blind people and cause epileptic seizures. Wimp.

That would go great next to my lamp that is made from engine parts!

Tell him to do the strobes and use the daylight setting at night. I bet you will be able to confuse the local county population into thinking its day or the end of the world.

Haha. Yes. It would. He's right in the city, too... It could attract unwanted attention from Public Safety workers on patrol, too. :) :) :)

He's got some retired strobes, but I think he knows he's pushing it with the neighbors with the beacon.

Well that, and his 65' radio tower, grandfathered into the 'hood. He wouldn't be able to pull a permit for it today, but it went up long long ago. I know you know those types of stories, from our discussion at Gaston's!

He invites them all over once a year for a big party and has the beacon on -- I swear it's so they associate it with beer, food, and fun, and good tunes, in their heads.

Flash-blinding them probably wouldn't have the same effect. :)
