Taildraggers Are Cool!

After my lesson today (during which the winds, unfortunately, would not cooperate for me to solo), I got to ride in/fly my third plane, and this one's a taildragger! It's a Sport Cub 2. Isn't she sweet?!

Flying from the back seat, with a stick, is so weird! I didn't take off or land, but I flew it around the pattern. It is a lot lighter of a plane after the Archer, and boy, is it responsive! :) The plane is going to Kansas tomorrow, so I won't get any more rides, but it was So Much Fun!

Soak it up. Not many get the privilege anymore, and some are (unnecessarily) afraid to tackle it. Mastering it is like getting your PPL all over again. Satisfying.

I flew Super Cub like that one, with the VGs. It would fly under 35 Kts indicated. On approach in a 15-kt wind it looked like I could have gotten out and run alongside the airplane.
 
Cool, glad you had fun. Taildraggers open up a whole new batch of fun planes to fly.
Just a bit of friendly advice, try cropping 50% of the empty sky and about 60% of the plain pavement out of the above photo, I think it would make it much better. Most times I like to fill the screen with the subject and cut out the wasted space.
 
That's a Sport Cub, not a Super Cub. CubCrafters makes the Sport Cub, Piper makes the Supercub. The SC2 has far less power than a supercub, or other aircraft in the Cubcrafters lineup.

They're nice enough planes, but Piper did it better IMO. :)

Thanks, fixed that! It didn't have much power, but it sure was light enough to take off and climb well. I'd never been in a taildragger before, so it was fun. Someday, I want to go up in a Piper Cub, but none have shown up at the airport when I'm there yet. :)

I'd fix the picture, too, but I'm on my phone.
 
Take that tease a step further and get your endorsement... even if you don’t plan on flying TW knowing how to will make you better no matter what you fly... crosswinds in a trike after becoming proficient in a TW are a cakewalk and no longer intimidating...

You can also buy more plane for your buck depending on what you want/need. For me chafing burgers in a Cessna 140 is awesome and I’ve tAken her accross country twice..1600 miles one way. I have a lot better plane for the dollar than a c150 and she’s a hellova lot cooler n better conversation starter than the 150/2... but because some folks are scared of em they are a better buy.

learning TW is not death defying scary, it’s a process and takes some practice but any pilot could do it if they put their heart in it... and even trike pilot’s planes would appreciate it if you did... you will put far less side load on the gear of a trike if u can fly a TW IMHO
 
TW endorsement was good for my feet but tw flying is not for me. At least not a Cub or a Stearman. Maybe if I tried some others...

Instructors do it all the time.

Once one flies a tandem taildragger or the right seat of almost any side-by-side, the switchover is completely automatic.
