After a recent flight to Santa Paula, I'm inspired to get a tailwheel endorsement. Any recommendations there for an instructor or maybe KCMA (or somewhere else not too far from KWHP) for this 60 year old who's used to an SR22?

CP Aviation at SZP:

They have a few tailwheel instructors, and nice Citabria's to fly.

I've flown there a few times. My sister is an aerobatic/tailwheel instructor near Seattle and goes a couple times a year to CP to continue her training (and she will be an instructor at CP beginning the middle of next year).

I'm not a fan of CP Aviation by any means. I did my TW last year with Bill Cornick, who does TW instruction out of KCMA between airshows.

Old school grandfather type with a c-140. He does it purely for fun, not sure if he's flying yet after knee surgery.

If you are able to make the trip, I highly recommend Daniel Wotring (Aviator Flight Training). He was based at FUL, but recently moved his operation to Cable (CCB )

Daniel is s good guy and a great pilot, but extremely busy. Good luck getting on his schedule. Perhaps you will have better luck than I.

He does have a lot of irons in the fire. Probably easier to get him for single flights here and there.

I just did my flight review with him in the Stearman and SNJ back in April.

I may have contacted him at the wrong time. He was definetly willing to work with me (I was looking to do some aerobatic training) but we couldn't get out schedules to sync.

I concur. I did a couple of lessons with Dan in his 170 back in 2011 but then relocated for a new job and ended up getting my endorsement elsewhere. But those two short lessons gave me a real good feeling about Dan and his abilities.

Dan's a good guy, but folks here seem to be geographically challenged - Fullerton is a over an hour drive, at the best of times, from WHP - 2 hours wouldn't be unusual.

The OP says he flies an SR22. The commute is worth it....if you can get his schedule aligned. When I was first using Daniel (when I bought my 170), I was living in San Diego.

I lived in Torrance at the time and flew to FUL from TOA to fly with Dan. Worth the trip. WHP is only a little farther.

Any suggestions for guys down in the San Diego area? I know there are a few planes in the Plus One Fleet, but my current CFI is not a tailwheel guy, and I don't know any of the ones who are.

Look up Glenn Daly in the Plus One directory. He teaches tailwheel and is one of the owners of the Super Cub.

getting a TW endorsement at Cable should be real fun . . . .because of the sw leaning runway . . . .
