Wow, I just opened this thread for the first time (since I'm not generally interested in tablesaws). 
Glad your dad is doing OK. It reminds me of a time I flew to KS or NE or somewhere out there to pick up a guy who had cut off his finger. We were flying him to Denver to get it reattached. I guess time is important with this process. He walked on the airplane with his wife following him carrying a bowl with his finger on ice...
