I am a KC-135R and KC-130J pilot. My job is a great one but with the new administration cutting government jobs, my job doesn't seem safe. I need advice and things that I will need to go into cargo or passenger operations.

That seems an odd combination of planes to be rated in. The Air Force has the K135's but the K130 is a Marine plane.

While currently suspended, the AF has more than a handful of pilots who also flew for a different service. Navy does too, but far fewer in my experience. Big blue calls it Interservice Transfer (IST).

Have you done your military competency to get FAA ratings? UPT completion of whatever flavor and an FAA written should get you an FAA multiengine commercial certificate w/instrument.

Hours from your FEF go on your application. You’ll need an FAA First Class Medical. This could be a nothingburger, but it’s like filling out a new SF86, have you ever in your life questions. Luckily, you should be able to just copy paste from your existing records.

If you have a VA disability rating, the conditions you were rated for will have to be disclosed on the FAA medical. Usually a nothing burger unless PTSD is present. Failure to disclose is a federal offense.

Hit up RTAG, jetcareers, APC and you’ll be in more professional pilot forums.

K-130 was an AF plane back in the good ole days

Yes on competency rating. Already have a FAA first class med. At Pease, They make us fill out a new SF86 every 5ish years. I do not have a VA disability rating, neither do I have PTSD

At this stage, it’s just building up your network and submitting apps.

@Sluggo63 might be a good guy to talk to, but realistically, the other forums I mentioned would give you better bang for buck assuming you have enough hours as an AC to he competitive at the 121 level.

Alright, would a degree in Nursing help (I already have one)

I mean, it allows you to check the box for having a degree, which is becoming a thing again.

I’m surprised your squadron mates don’t have any advice for you. Can’t generally swing a dead cat in an AFRES flying job without hitting an airline pilot.
