Swap CDI for HSI?

I just had dual G5’s installed. I still have a CDI coupled to my #2 Nav but was wondering if I could re-install the mechanical HSI in place of the CDI? TIA.
 
I don't know that I would want to. Depending on the plane and the HSI, that could involve grinding the round hole into a square hole, re-installing a vacuum system, re-installing the remote magnetometer and/or re-installing the remote gyro.
 
I agree with @asicer. It's not worth the extra complexity and extra weight of the remote-mounted gyro. Your G5s will give you all you need; one could even argue that keeping a mechanical CDI is overkill.

It's a 1980 Mooney M20J and I believe the HSI is Century. But, there's been some excellent points made, not the least of which is the prospect of reinstalling a vacuum system? No way.
