Pre-takeoff checklist
I got my seaplane rating at this place, Alaska Float Ratings (awesome experience, BTW) and flew this plane a few times.
Based on the witnesses, my random best guess is a stall/spin into the lake. We typically never flew more than a couple hundred feet over the water/terrain. Not enough room for recovery.
A lot of experience was lost in this accident. Tragic.
