Had a great day yesterday. My wife bought me a ride in a Stearman at Polk City, FL. Best part was that I did almost all the flying including take off and landing. I will post se pictures when I get home. Will post more about it when I on a real keyboard.

Glad you enjoyed it! I took a flight there in 2008 just before I soloed. It was a lot of fun.

I mentioned I was about to start on my commercial so he took me through channels, lazy eights and steep turns. It was great

Awesome!! yes, we will need pics of this!!

Also found out his wife's sister lives across from my he field so I extended an invitation to go fly in the Arrow the next time they were up in the Dayton area

Vandy. I also bought the video. Will show it to you and Matt next time I see you if you are interested

I did get the name and number of a guy in Ohio that gives similar rides. Will pass on to some friends when I get back.

Hey, I did that same flight, when I was there on business a couple of years ago. He let me have some stick time, too and we did the lazy eights and stuff. Very cool. It was definately a memorable flight.

Looking forward to your pic's. I had a blast, unforgetable flight.

Stewart Field, Waynesville, Ohio - 40I. What a fun ride! From my flight journal...

We climbed out leaving the grass field behind and seemingly stepping back in time. The sound of that radial engine and the smells blowing in my face blanked everything out of my mind, it was awesome! It seemed like we were in slow motion, all that open air rushing by me, the wing struts in every view somehow framed every picture I was locking into my brain.

Ok, here are some pictures.

The flight started out with a detailed brief on the aircraft and it's history.

My pilot taxied out to the grass and handed the controls over to me. He continued to tell me about the aircraft with v speeds and how it flew as I taxied from one grass runway to another and then backtaxied to end of the east west strip to allow the engine to warm up and then the mag check. After the mag check was performed he gave me a few instructions on what to expect and gave me the go to take off.

In our discussion I had told him I was getting ready to start my commercial training so he said we would do some commercial work. After a couple 45* turns both left and then right we did some steep bank turns at 60* both ways.

Next, we did some lazy eights. first left, then right individually then left right combo. Next we did some chandelle's. Stalls were next including approach to landing and take off and departure plus some slow flight. He then said just fly and have some fun.

Flying something with a round engine has been on my bucket list for a long time and the open cockpit Stearman at the very top of that list. It took a few minutes to get used to the control forces but then it was a very natural feeling.

Honestly the best flying I have ever been part of. I love being out in the airstream, it felt like flying should.

When it was time to head back he suggested doing a couple figure 8's for the family still on the ground, which I did and loved.

He gave me a few instruction for landing and pointed. the landing was silky smooth and except for a couple rudder inputs on roll out it was all mine. i taxied up to the apron and handed the airplane over to him so he could spin it around on the apron.

Truely a great time.

Here are some pictures.

Sweet. My wife and I did this too. There's a guy down in pismo beach CA that has one and will take you on loops rolls etc. along the beautiful pacific coast. Fun stuff.

I should have reduced the picture size so they don't take so long to load

Looks like you had a good time!!! And don't worry about the pic size, the ones that complain need to step up for dial up anyway :)

I tried to not be so obvious but I just couldn't get that toothy grin off of my face. Definitely one of my bucket list items
