Star Wars IX

What bothered me most was the lack of originality in the basic plot.

I liked Rogue One, which had some new ideas, and some characters that I would have liked to see more of.

Sci-fi is probably my favorite genre and Star Trek TOS ranks top. I'm sure it helped shape my love for electronics, computers and technology, which is what my career consist of. However, I must say, there's only one series that I've REALLY enjoyed more than the original. That is Battlestar Galactica (developed by Ronald D. Moore). God I love that series!!! The story line and characters are magnificent.
100% agree on the "re-imagined" BSG. There were a few weak moments and some plot turns that begged credulity (e.g. Kara's "reappearance"), but overall that was one superb series.

Rogue One fit perfectly into Lucas’ soap opera plan. Engaging story (and we knew how important the Deathstar plans were) with a classic & heroic ending.

"We are in the middle of a war... and you're taking orders from a school teacher?"

Eddie Olmos played the heck out of his role as Commander Adama. They couldn't have picked a better actor.

Rogue One was really great. It is a real pity that Disney can't do what Marvel has done, let young directors take their movies in interesting different directions. It really doesn't have to be Skywalker vs. Palpatine to be really cool and interesting. It does help to have compelling story though, something the latter Star Wars movies have truly lacked.

There's a ton of great stuff in the expanded Star Wars Universe, especially the books by Timothy Zahn. He's a great sci-fi writer who's done a lot of Star Wars, and I particularly enjoy the way he makes politics and intrigue both understandable and fascinating.

He invented the character of Grand Admiral Thrawn, who is just fantastic. Just a non-spoiling teaser: Thrawn accurately predicts a species military behavior through close, careful study of their artwork! Brilliant!

I rather enjoyed "The Rise of Skywalker." I'm a lifelong Star Wars lover, and this one, overall, did not disappoint. Certainly not perfect, but pretty darn good in my opinion. I honestly expected Disney to disappoint much more than they have, but they've done a pretty good job. Overall, the Disney movies are much better than Episodes I, II, and III. "The Force Awakens" was quite poor, and I prepared for the worst after that, but I think they improved greatly with "The Last Jedi" and "The Rise of Skywalker." That said, they hit a freaking monster homerun with "Rogue One." As blasphemous as it may sound, Rogue One is right up there with the originals in my opinion.

Haven't seen Mandalorian. For some reason, it seems like a Star Wars series will trivialize the whole thing for me. I like the anticipation of waiting a year or two or three for a big blowout movie experience. Absence makes the heart grow fonder, or something like that. They are just about the only movies I'll actually drag my but to the big town to go see, so it's a pretty big deal when a new Star Wars comes out. Plus, I'm just not going sign up and spend any amount of money on yet another subscription streaming service.

Highly recommend Mando. It's not the grand operatic scale of R1, E4, E5 and E6, but it's just as true to the universe as any of the others.
