Sport to recreational pilot

You have to ask yourself, if you're in such bad shape that you can't pass a class 3 medical, should you really be flying anyways?

Baloney.

Many pilots, including me, have a medical condition that will require a Special Issuance. The FAA doesn’t treat such conditions; they just require tons of data and testing. To get my class 3 required submitting hundreds of pages of documentation in order to get an SI for an autoimmune condition. No way I’ll deal with that every year, so I’m on Basic Med now.

And I’m not one bit more dangerous in the air, nor was I somehow made safer by jumping through the FAA’s medical hoops.

Many people would rather fly Sport than spend thousands every year to get and maintain an SI.

I have no desire or need to fly at night or in bad weather. The ONLY benefit to me in pp is passengers. I am fairly sure that recreational pilot with a cross country endorsement will give me everything I want and desire except being able to have three passengers.

What bad weather is a private pilot flying in that a rec pilot isn't?

Good luck on your quest, you may have trouble finding a cfi for recreational cert.

You might also want to check on insurance for a Rec Pilot, and if you'll be renting make sure rental places will rent to a Rec Pilot.
