Split costs while building time?

I just saw a FB post that piqued my curiosity again. I have seen posts like this one from time to time and the gist is "Looking for someone to split costs and build time". Sometimes there's a "Who has access to a plane" clause (which makes a little more sense). Are posts like these looking for some company while flying? Presumably the way this would work is that you would rent an aircraft for two hours, one pilot is PIC outbound to some destination and then you swap seats and the other pilot is PIC for the trip home. Then after the flight both pilots split the rental costs. But they're also splitting the PIC time, so what's the benefit of this arrangement???

it's mostly ill-informed low time peeps who think you can just sit in a plane with someone and log pic. happens all the time on a local fb group.

That's what I'm thinking. Could make for an unfortunate surprise, or maybe not, who's going to know?

Looking at the post it would seem the pilot wants company on the flight.
