Spammers are getting truthful...

So evidently rather than just picking some random person and saying we want you to act as a beneficiary to some dead foreign dignitary, they have started to change their approach.

E-mail specifically addressed to me, as opposed to the typical Nigerian scam.
I am to act as next of kin to someone who actually has the same surnname as I do - and spelled correctly.
The spammer says they are an attorney in Kuala Lumpur, the originating IP is actually from Kuala Lumpur.

I'm half tempted to open a dialogue out of boredom.
 
Oh, I know. But usually they open with...


"My dead uncle Mogbaidi Ugnadibola died leaving $24MM USD, I am contacting you to help get the money from the bank..."

Then claim they are from London, with an IP address in Ghana.

 
The best response to the scams that I've seen is that wreaked by the guy at ebolamonkeyman dot com. WARNING...don't go there if easily offended or with a mouthful of liquid.
