There's nothing unusual about this video, but just watching a shuttle approach and touchdown never gets old. It's always a 10.0 performance.

This video starts with Discovery 73 miles from KSC, and it covers that distance in a hurry. I recommend skipping the early part. Fast forward to 2:50, that's when the double sonic boom "crack crack" is heard, and the action picks up. At 5:20, the short range camera shot begins, and you'll find it's almost impossible not to smile when you see it.

Watching the rate of descent and speed on approach always makes me grin like a country yokel. It's just freekin' cool. The camera shot taken from the threshold and pointing down the runway catches the awesome sight of the shuttle just seconds from touchdown.

I hope you enjoy the video. I've watched it four times in the last 30 minutes. :D

I met a real live astronaut last weekend. He flies a Glasaire and is in my hangar complex. For privacy I won't mention his name but he has been on three shuttle missions, one as a mission specialist, one as a pilot and one as a commander.

Given recent posts I was watching the end whispering to myself..gear..Gear...GEAR!!!

Too cool! A while back, I was lucky enough to have lunch with Drew Feustel, who did an EVA to help repair the Hubble space telescope. I forget which mission he was on. A very humble and highly likable person.

One of my diving buddies helped design the Lunar Lander NAV Computers.

I’ve always wanted to go see a launch but never found myself there at the right time.

I had an astronaut speak at my Eagle Court of Honor. He was a cool dude. No youtube videos of him landing. Just launch videos. He passed away last year at a young age (60ish).

I got to watch a landing in person at Edwards AFB once. It was pretty cool. Getting in and out of the dry lake bed, not quite so cool. A lot of people showed up.
