Sonex Tests New Jet

Well, they claim 225 foot-pounds of thrust... Given that tiny airframe it should scoot right along... It will be interesting to watch this develop....

Gol Dang!!! That is pretty cool. Looks like something the Germans would have cooked up in WWII. I can't wait to see it fly.

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

I saw this plane at OSH last year. Quite impressive looking at it drew a CROWD! :yikes:

It just looks cool sitting there, you don't even have to fire it up, just pull it outside the hanger and look at it!

I want one!!!!!!!
They are supposed to be less than 50K
1 hour of flight on 32 gal.
250-300 mph
all held together with pop rivets
engine doubles as space heater for hanger
Kinda looks like something off the Roadrunner /Wiley Coyote show--------------------- the SONEX AJAX (acme jet aircraft xperimental)
Awesome!!!

You and me both! How cool would it be to have a jet tucked away in the back of the hanger. Certainly not a cross country machine, but if you just want to go screw around for an hour this would be the ticket!

I wonder if you can buy the engines seperatrely. I could take an RV-9a with a subaru engine non it and replace it with a jet on top of each wing! A RV-Honda Jet! I"M IN!

Is that 1 hour with or without reserves? Personally, I'm reluctant to take off with less than 1 hours fuel in the tanks, and if this plane only holds one hour's fuel...

Ever wonder why people don't invite you to Christmas parties?

:D

Shouldn't it be called the "SubWaiex" instead of "SubSonex?"

I wonder 1) how ear piercingly loud that thing must be, 2) how small of a borescope do you need to work on it, and 3) does it snap apart like legos to expose the hot section? That's double cool, though! The only thing better, I think, would be the turbine Cri Cri.

I saw it on display at Oshkosh. That plane is COOL!!

I especially liked what John Monnett reportedly said to someone who asked
him, "How fast will it go?" Monnett said, "How fast do you think it will go?"
"200?" replied the questioner. Said Monnett, "If it would only go 200 why would I bother building a jet?"

Merry Christmas everybody!

This brings up an interesting question about strapping a jet to any aircraft. Will all due respect John Monnett claims speeds to 300 MPH, yet none of his other planes have VNEs that high. Strapping a jet on an airframe does not increase the VNE on an airplane. How can they do that safely?

His claim of 300mph is exaggerated. Just looking at the pictures makes me wonder.
