No pictures in this thread unfortunately. The past couple of days on LI have been ugly so I've had a few days off this week. I decided to visit my sister in CT and get lunch with her. My dad tagged along and we filed to White Plains (HPN) from Republic (FRG). We took up a Warrior III as it was what I could afford! I really wanted to take up a Cirrus but it was a little more expensive. Like the cheap pilots we are, we got the clearance and weather before we started up. The route was Farmingdale 4 DPK BDR BDR288 RYMES DIRECT.The weather was OVC006 with a few miles vis when we departed. Broke out around 1400 and then we were shortly back in the clouds at 2000. The whole flight over was pretty much in and out of the clouds. Since my dad is a CA at Delta he thought it would be cool to do some crew work. He explained what each of us should do as far as radios, checklists, taxiing, etc. It was a short hop over to HPN so it was nice to have someone brief the approach, run checklists, and help dial in frequencies especially since we didn't have an AP and most of the flight was in IMC. We were told best forward speed to the field and on the approach as they had some regional and charter jets coming in. Approach gave me a vector to intercept the ILS 34 and I completely overshot it:mad2:. Then I made a GIANT correction back to the right and ended up chasing the needle:nono:. Conditions at HPN was mostly VFR and we were able to see the runway while getting vectors. I was doing 120kts until short final, chopped the power, and added flaps. HPN was busy and we got our taxi clearance to Million Air. We passed a few nice jets and even saw a private A320 that had an Italian tail number. (maybe the Pope?:dunno:) Ramp fee was $40 and they would waive it with a 15 gallon purchase. Two things are wrong with that. 1, we didn't burn 15 gallons so it would be impossible. 2, fuel was around $7 so it wouldn't even be worth it to purchase fuel so I ended up paying the ramp fee. We got into the crew car which was a 2015 Mercedes E Class and drove to Stamford, CT to meet my sister for lunch. After a good meal we headed on back to airport. Called up clearance and got Westchester 5 CMK V374 DENNA V44 DPK. We departed 34 and were in the clouds around 1500. As we departed via the SID, NY told us to stop the climb at 2000 and they would have a shortcut for us:thumbsup:. We never got to any fixes and instead they turned us to the west then back to the north ad finally to the south all the way to FRG at 2000. We got the weather at FRG and was told to expect the RNAV 1. We briefed the approach and got it set up. Around 3 miles out, we spotted the airport and conditions looked good enough for a visual. We got cleared and it worked out so we wouldn't have to get vectored all the way to the south for the approach. Overall it was a really fun day and it was nice to take a break from instructing and just have a good time with family. Total time took 1.4!
