The continuing soap opera of new windows. First window used Bostik 1100 FS (as recommended by Piper) - very messy. The nozzle is much too large and stuff got all over. To complicate matters, smudges of the sealant got on visible part of the windows. What can I use to clean it off?

Second window used the 3M "rope" caulk - so much easier! But again, I got smudges on the windown so I need something to clean it off the windows (not nearly as bad as the Bostik)

Third window - piece of cake!

This morning I went out to the hangar to remove Window #1 (Bostik). The plan was to clean it off, clean the sealant off the window and the frame, remove the foam, re-do the whole thing with the 3M. Well folks, those windows are there for life. Nothing I did would get that window out of the frame.

I taped off the windows (3M blue tape), took a cotton ball with acetone and cleaned the sealant off the aluminum, taking extreme care not to get near the window. Edges around the window look much better.

FYI: If that's the stuff I think it is once its cured you can only remove it by mechanical means. Your only option to chemically clean is during its uncured stage. I've had luck with a razor blade but it will damage the window. Maybe check the MSDS for other removal options?

I just did mine last weekend. Masking tape and mineral spirits! Turned out good
For removing the dried/cured excess use plastic razor blades.
