So I had some fun in the Cub today...

The winds were pretty strong, especially aloft, AND, the winds were right down the runway.

I couldn't resist.

After sending off a student on a solo flight, I cranked up the Cub that I teach in, taxied out to the far end of runway 35 and took off into the wind. Held a good climb and was at 3K feet before reaching the end of the runway. Hung out there a while, then got it on up to 4K and held it at MCA, and drifted slowly backwards. Hung out there a while until my student got back, then slowly came down like an elevator, all the while watching a beautiful sunset develop. Could've landed right where I started out, but decided to land closer to the parking spot, so I SLOWLY moved forward and landed on the grass next to the hail sheds. Total flight was only about 25 minutes, but it was a blast.

Oh, I didn't mention, I never changed my heading. It varied up to 15 degrees for a few gusts, but the nose was pointed north the entire time. I did look out the windows a few times to check for traffic, and was using the radio.

It was fun.

That would have made for an interesting FlightAware track!!!

That's pretty slick. I did that once with one of my Radio Control Planes. Guys thought I was nuts at the club fun fly for trying to fly, but it was pretty cool to do.

Just don't turn downwind :hairraise:
