So, who pushes the close button on elevators?

It drives me mad when someone does that. I had one person laying on the button as I was trying to get on.
"Thanks! I really appreciate it."
It's not like you're going to get to the fifth floor any faster. You might, if you weren't so lazy, by taking the stairs.

They failed to take into account zoning.

While the instrument panel may have a close door button not all places allow it to be operational. I know for a fact that the button works great in Asia. You hit it and the door instantly closes.

Whether it works or not varies in my building. I think our elevator banks are programmed to keep a set number at the lobby, mid floors, and top floors. They adjust timing & response times throughout the day (elevators randomly open on the lobby without being called in the mornings). Sometimes the button works, sometimes it doesn't.

We have people that are in such a hurry that they'll get in and press the thing four or five times as if that will help. What I like is when I'm in the elevator and it gets to my floor, door opens and before you can take a step to get off someone is pushing past you to get in. :incazzato:

Dunno about the "door close" button in our elevator at work. I just take the 1 flight of stairs that we have.

We had a power failure where I work, and the elevator was stuck between 1st/2nd floor. One of our machinists was inside. The FD showed up, but couldn't get the outer doors open, they didn't have the right key or something. One of the firefighters working on the door kept talking through the door to keep our guy calm. It didn't help that we kept suggesting they just leave him inside so our company productivity would go up. Eventually, the guy inside the elevator started to "panic".

The conversation went something like:
Firefighter: Sir, stay calm. We are working on the door right now.
Our guy: Hurry, please!!!
FF: Sir, it'll be OK. Just remain calm.
Our guy: You gotta get me OUT OF HERE!!!
FF: Sir! SIR!!! Just stay calm.
Our guy: MY GOD, GET ME OUT OF HERE!!! MY COFFEE IS GETTING COLD!!!
FF: %&$*^&(#*%!!

They eventually dropped a ladder through the top of the cab and got him out.

Me. And they usually seem to work although I have not made a study of it. Most of the elevators I take are in hotels, though.

The Chinese love that button. They will be pushing it as you approach the elevator. When I can get my hand in the door I'll usually stand there and invite as many onto the elevator as it will hold.

I call it enhancing US/Chinese relations. :ihih:

Yes they do love that button and I do exactly as you do too!!!:thumbsup::cornut::cornut::cornut:

It only works if you press and hold it. For 3 seconds. If you let go before, it adds a 2 second penalty. If you hold for 4 or more seconds, the biometric sensor remembers you and penalizes you 5 seconds upon each subsequent use of the elevator. Oh, and each 1/1,000,000 passenger doing this will be squished when they walk through the open doors while the elevator advances one floor, oblivious to their presence.

\Too much elevator time, not enough mind stimulation.
