So speaking of shortages

This is proof positive that every topic has to include guns. Just saying, I thought this forum was about flying.
I thought The recent thread drift was about hunting. Before that it was about shortages of consumer items. Then the poor state of journalism. I didn’t read anything about guns. But if there is a gun thread you will sure to be there. Seems to be an obsession. Your position on the topic is well known. But don’t let that stop you from bringing it up ad nauseum.

You missed it. There was a tangent on hunting in Texas, it branched off the part about a price hike on bacon to making your own, to using feral pigs in Texas....

Back on topic, Reno’s airport today warned of a shortage of jet fuel.

Back to truck drivers then. There are not enough of them to meet the demand - seeing it across multiple industries.

and when I say “not enough” it should be understood that I mean “willing to work for that wage”. If they were paying enough, I’d gladly drop what I’m doing and drive a truck. Now, they aren’t going to double driver pay, but I wonder how much revenue is lost vs what the cost to increase driver pay enough to woo people back to work would be?

The hospitality industry faces the same issue. They have not raised wages in twenty years, and it was minimum wage back then, now they complain that they cannot hire anyone.
All of my kids have worked some in hospitality, the ones still in school have switched to other industries that pay better.

I have a .357 lever gun, and a revolver to match.

Yes, so can a guy with a .357. :)

You need a bigger rifle. Try a .44 Remington lever gun. Great excuse reason to buy a new gun--safety.
Guess you haven’t been reading very carefully. These are only the quotes about specific firearms, not those about hunting in general.

Again, I thought Flight Following was about Flying…

This is a post on Newagtalk.com which is the go-to forum for production agriculture. The post states that the Idaho Forest Service helicopters are parked due to a lack of fuel.

Bozeman, Montana Fuel shortages for commercial flights. It's Montana's busiest airport.
Fuel being allocated to fire fighting aircraft.
I was at local airport when County commissioners came in , the manager was asked about availability of fuel and if he was having trouble receiving any when ordered. Not yet was the reply.

In a thread titled "So speaking of shortages", I raised the spectre of a bacon shortage. Others did the same for shortages of fuel, dairy products, truck drivers, hospitality industry workers, taco bell offerings, apple juice, brisket, and probably a few I missed.

Helpful members of POA chimed in with targeted responses on how to alleviate the bacon shortage. There has been similar discussion around the other shortages. That's the kind of useful exchange of information we should expect from our forum.

Deep breath, deep breath this too shall pass. In a year, we’ll start telling stories to our grand kids about the great uneven, spotty recovery of 2021

That will continue in 2022 as some areas are spiking again on the pandemic.

Nah. The .357 is plenty. I've got a Model 29, but don't feel a compelling need for a matching rifle. I just don't get to shoot enough to justify another one.

And just to keep any whiners happy, I just wonder if there will be enough fuel to get there if I decide to go. :)

The only thing we have to fear...

is running out of beer.!!

Franklin D. Roosevelt's real wording for his inauguration speech until Eleanor made him change it.

....and enough ammunition.

Threads wander off topic. It's what they do.

And no, I don't think the feral pig population would alleviate the bacon shortage. They are fairly lean and if it was that easy to catch them, there wouldn't be so many of them.

I blame the bacon shortage on the keto religion.

We just snagged a couple jet fuel contracts today contingent on more of our crude trailers passing certification. I would be supplying the firefighters. Will be picking up in Tyler TX and delivering to several states yet to be determined. Should be a cool gig.

If you want to make over six figures you’ll need hazmat and tanker endorsements. Plus at least 2 years tanker experience. Get with the right company and its easily doable. ;)

When colonial pipeline shutdown, it was everyone topping their tanks off due to media that actually caused the issue.
The pipeline has been shutdown for a week many times over the years, and never a problem until it is carried by the press.

Yes, every mention of guns seems to offend you. Report those posts if you think they violate the rules here and let the moderators decide. And stop complaining to everyone else about it.

You mean just like every mention of masks being a proven safe and effective means of pandemic mitigation seem to offend you? Boo hoo.

You should read more. Way more threads without guns than with guns. But why does it matter?
There was a bit of sarcasm in my post, only a bit, obviously not every post, but more than is statistically random. Seems like you guys are the ones getting in a twist. If you noticed, I only pointed it out (and also your lack of observation, when prompted). If you want to keep it going, by all means, get the thread shut down. It is not about flying anyway so I don’t care.

I am not offended by such mentions at all. I have no idea where you would get that idea. On the contrary, when such assertions were made I would politely present evidence to the contrary.

That subject is no longer permitted here however as it was a temporary decision by the moderators to allow it during the pandemic.

OTOH, the mention of guns is generally permitted so long as it does not devolve into gun politics. That may be why such mentions continue in PoA. If you disagree with that policy, suggest taking it up with moderators.

It was called NPR and PBS. The problem is both partisans have come to detest it. The result has been a slowly declining funding level over the past couple decades, to the point where they are largely handicapped.

Tim

for sure! I still listen to a lot of NPR but you are spot on.

If thread drift offends, annoys, or stresses you, the Internet is not the place for you. For that matter neither is a cocktail party or simple polite conversation--masked or maskless.

I’m not in a twist. I just did not understand why it bothered you.

This is a message board where people with aviation interests in common can meet up and socialize. It’s normal for those interactions to be centralized around aviation but it’s unreasonable to restrict the conversation to only aviation.

After a while there’s not much aviation left to talk about and as we get to know each other the conversation will expand. It’s part of being involved in a community of people.

There are often times I wander up on a conversation about something I do not wish to talk about a I move on. I do not make an effort to censor the participants of the conversation.

edit:
I would agree that gun conversation is above what you call a statistical random occurrence. It has been my experience that gun ownership among pilots is higher than the population. I would expect it to be a regular topic on an aviation board. Much like discussing alcohol and tobacco. Anecdotally I see all three of the ATF activities occurring at a higher rate among my pilot buddies. They often come up in conversation on this board as well. /edit

If I find something to be contrary to our ROC I will report the thread for MC review.

Seems like you’re ****ing in the wind on this and I don’t get it…. To each their own.

There is no expectation of a non offensive environment in the real world. Feel free to express yourself however you deem it to be socially appropriate. If any of us cross a line in the POA universe we will hear from a mod.

Speaking of Taco Bell, I've noticed that the ones near a freeway exit are safer than the ones that aren't.

I really don't want to know the details of the sampling process that allowed you to arrive at that conclusion.

Maybe too many of the tanker truck drivers regularly eat at the Bell causing above average sick days ?
But that wouldn't explain the bacon shortage.

Let's talk about something non-controversial then. Like bicycles.

Or even better , electric bicycles ;-)

just as long as we don't talk about bicyclists... like the moron that somehow felt entitled to ride in the left lane of a 50 mph zone...

oops.

nevermind

Joe Biden thanks you.
Ironically Biden issued/extended what is called a “COVID emergency declaration act” which mostly pertains to Ag commodities. This includes raw milk, skim, and cream. Basically any commodity in a raw form that when processed ends up on a store shelf. I am exempt (when hauling dairy) from the HOS rules and am not required to keep logs. We may be getting the same exemption for hauling fuel. The FMSCA issued a temporary exemption when the colonial pipeline went offline. They may apply it to the firefighting companies.

That's ok, if he goes 50.
