Texas Sen. Kel Seliger was not injured when he accidentally drove his single-engine plane onto a vehicle service road and ran into a chain-link fence at Dallas Love Field.

Love Field spokesman Jose L. Torres said the 62-year-old Amarillo Republican was alone in the plane when the incident happened near a private aviation company along Lemmon Avenue, northeast of the airport's commercial airline terminal.

Torres said Seliger was heading back to Amarillo but took the service road instead of a taxiway that leads to a runway.

The left wing of the Bonanza A-36 caught the fence and pulled the propeller into the fence.

You can't make this stuff up -- how invigorating to finally have proof that politicians can't do anything right! Hope this doesn't infringe on the Spin Zone.

Interessting choice to try and drive his airplane down a service road.... I would of thought the car or limo would have been a better choice... Also interessting choice of state funding to build a service road from Dallas to Amarilo... It's amazing some people who write these articles went into journalism with the quality of writing displayed!

Glad no one was hurt.

That's what he gets for not watching his left wing. It (they) will turn on you every time! ;)

My sincerest apologies to the management council. In the spirit of the MC Geico has determined a 3 hour self suspension (for talking politics outside the SZ) is in order. The time is 6:30 CST

I say we ban Geico ( Larry) for 10 years.....:D

Normally the palm greasers take the back road....this time the politician takes the back road and runs into a drag net....go figure.

He will just plead the Inhofe defense....:yikes::D

I heard that he was distracted by searching for his third class medical cert to be sure he had it in case of a ramp check....

I caught the awkward wording too and I'm not a journalist - but I am a pilot and maybe that's why it sounded so obviously weird. I would think a casual proofread would catch silly stuff like this:

Torres said Seliger was heading back to Amarillo but took the service road instead of a taxiway that leads to a runway.

That's gonna be a long hot drive.
