Skew-T site offline

Yeah saw that the other day and an App I have wont load data either. Which I assume grabs the data from that site.

Maybe ran out of balloons....

Yeah, as a skew-t addict I've been in withdrawal for several days now. :(
However, as a temporary kludge, I have found this site:
http://ready.arl.noaa.gov/READYcmet.php

which, when used properly, gives me my coveted fix.
It is a royal pain to use, however, and includes a captcha to block bots (like some apps).
To use, choose a location (easiest by lat/lon, or airport without 'K'), then 'sounding' -> GFS 0.5 degree -> GO -> Next, set time to plot, enter captcha, and get sounding.

ScottD responded to my query on this:

"They are rehosting the interactive soundings on another server. Evidently users of this site caused a slow down of the operational web products and that ****ed some folks off that were complaining of slow access. It'll be a few days before they have it up and running on the new server"

Thanks, good to know.
So back to captchas for now. :(

It's back.

In a manner of speaking. I think the URL has changed a bit, as well as the interface. I get it from here now: http://rucsoundings.noaa.gov/
You specify the airport and "html5 plot" and it seems to work.
Edit: and my Android skew-t app seems to work again too.

That URL has been around since February 2006. They are still calling it RUC soundings even though the RUC model was retired on January 24, 2012 and replaced with the Rapid Refresh model. The HTML5 button was added in April 2014 as the Java version was problematic on some mobile devices that didn't support it.

Yes, but I had been using the "gifs" option, which has apparently been discontinued, so my old bookmarks stopped working, see here:
http://rucsoundings.noaa.gov/gifs/

The reason for our sudden termination of the IDL-based Skew-T plots is because they use a no-longer supported version of IDL that is not available on our new server, and because better, interactive, non-java plots are now available.

So they now tell you to use the html5 version instead.
Which seems to work OK, so I am not complaining too much.
My most critical need is the Android app, and it's working fine now.

Broken again due to the new year.

"There are two hard things in computer science: cache invalidation, naming things, and off-by-one errors."

Can you pull a GFS sounding for Jan 3? 2016 isn't in the dropdown.

Just put in 60 hours into the number of hours field and it will generate a sounding valid on the 3rd.

Thanks Scott, that indeed works around the issue.
