Good luck to me. Tasty tasty murder. Sorry, I know this goes against all you vegan's on here. But if I get to eat him and he is a strict vegan I think that makes this all ok?

It's not like they're an endangered species.

Something or someone has to cull the herd.

They are "woods rats",, come a creeping out at night and eat your garden, fruit trees, etc.

Can you make Bacon out of Deer meat? Hmmm....
Only if yer a) a really bad shot or b) hunting deer in a pig pen and/or c) bad at target identification

Hell yeah man. Good luck! Nice buck there. Can't wait for hunting season out this way

We definitely need hunters these days because most of the natural predators are gone and deer are more polpulous today than they were historically...before we so drastically altered the ecosystem (at least that’s the case here in Missouri and they have greatly liberalized the take limits over the last 20 years or so).

Me though, I just can’t do it. I’m far too hyper for deer or turkey hunting and I guess I’m missing the gene that allows me to kill stuff. I tried hunting when I was a kid but always felt horrible after even a clean kill, even squirrels and rabbits. But hunters serve a very important role these days and I applaud those who enjoy it and pursue it ethically.

But I always let people hunt on my properties...for free. Their payment: I get the first deer to put in MY freezer!!

And you have those tasty corn fed deer over in IL...far better than our acorn deer across the south half of MO.

They do make venison bacon and I haven't had a chance to try it yet. A friend who is a hunter says its wonderful. Season just opened up here in indiana and we're waiting for him to get one to the processor so we can try some .....

It’s lean for sure. I love making my chili with venison because there’s no fuss, no muss, no fat to drain off.

My CFI claimed the other day to have bagged three deer. I asked him if it was with a bow or rifle (lots of folks here use bows, as the season is longer). He claimed two by bow and one by katana. The latter is a story I'd like to hear. Good on the OP, nothing wrong with bagging and eating wild animals, especially if it helps control their population. I'd eat the stuff if it didn't make violently ill.

I'll mix in just a little pork and beef with the venison for my chili, when I have venison.... I'll probably have to leave out the beef now to get a leaner, healthier chili. There's two words that do not belong in the same sentence with the word chili......

So, you still out there waiting or give up or get one? Hadn't heard back yet.

Gave up. Had to get back to work. I had a full body 6 pointer walk under me but let him go for another year. A couple nice doe's that didn't come into range. The deer are moving really well now and the rut will probably start here in a week or so.

I did get last years buck back from the taxidermist so I'll post a pic of that soon. Going to either take a big buck or large doe this year. It's still early in the season but I'm running out of last years two that I took.

I'm leaving for upstate NY on the 10th. This will be my 14th year in a row and I've bagged one every year*. My buddy killed a 9 point not unlike the picture above a couple of days ago during muzzle loader season. I'm still waiting for the one I'll hang on the wall.

*one year I didn't kill one but another I killed two.
