Site operations fundraiser

Thank you, again, to all of you! We're getting close. As I said, we're trying to fund 2 years of operation. We try not to ask often, and have (thus far) held off on placing ads on the site. We try to make this a place that you love to come to talk with your pilot buddies in between flights. We know it's not perfect, but I can't tell you the number of friends I've made on this site.

Screw you guys. I'm not donating squat!

Squat for electrons. That's a trade I've got to take.

Now I just need to figure out how to pay my $20 credit-card bill using squat.

I just got my official POA hat ... that was quick!

I see they sent you one with a button on top.

I bet your headset will tell you you should have donated more, to get the no-button version.

That should have been minuscule. What the hell is wrong with you. Doesn't your certificate mention that you're English Proficient? Use it!!

(How's that for getting beat up??) :D

Why don't you go eat some Decon anymouse. I thought microscopic had a much better flow to it.

See what I mean!

For those that have given, THANK YOU! We're close enough to our goal that we'll likely shut down fundraising in the next day or two. We appreciate all of you more than you know. This is where I met all of my closest flying friends. I know that there are times when it gets a little heated around here...but the fact of the matter is that the content on this site is one of the best collections of general aviation knowledge anywhere on the internet. Try googling for GA topics, those searches will often lead you right back to here.

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

Why shut it down, ever? Might as well leave it open for us slackers who are chicken to do it until we have other stuff knocked off our budgets.

Since we only try to take in enough money to keep us operating, we prefer to have a fundraiser for a limited period of time every so often rather than have a constant plea for money. Keep in mind none of the MC takes a salary, this is literally raising money to pay for the operations which is pretty much the web hosting and software updates or additions that we do.

In the spirit of being a free and open forum, it seems disingenuous to have a "donate" button other than when it's determined to be necessary to buy or pay for something that we need to keep the site operating.

As Jason said in post 1, the goal was to bring in enough money to last us about 2 years, so hopefully that will mean we won't need to ask again until 2019, barring unforeseen circumstances.

Alright. Let us know when your odd self-imposed rules let you put the tip jar back on the counter. Haha.

In the meantime, I'll let Karen know if the life insurance pays off to write a check and send it to @jason with a note he'd better damn well not send it back or the dead guy will haunt him. LOL.

Reactions: Ted
@jason and @Ted DuPuis --- how about an airplane raffle similar to what Wings of Hope accomplishes each round?

While that would theoretically keep us going for a long, long time, I think that's more effort than what makes sense given the funding needs.

Ted was right. The additional reason is that it's just more paperwork for the lawyers. We like to get it done in one shot so that they only have to fill out one form one time a year (or two) and be done with it. Year round would just be more to track and account for.

As in taxes, or what? Seems like you're filing those (even if it's all zeros) every year, anyway. Technically if it's not a flow-through onto someone's personal taxes, you're filing quarterly, I think. And... you're not a 501(c)3 so no need to mail out receipts...?

Wondering what this means, and what's keeping the "lawyers" busy that I'm not seeing.

It's just the way that we're going to do it, Nate. :)

Could have just said "because we're weird control freaks" right up front, and saved a lot of making up stuff. Haha.
@jason isn't "making stuff up". We were asked to do it that way by our lawyers... who are also MC members. ;)

BTW - all joking, kidding and jesting aside - BZ to you all for keeping POA alive and on the air! :)

:yeahthat:

A heartfelt thanks! It's a contentious and often thankless job. I appreciate the work you all do.
