We'd like to add an Alpha Systems electronic AoA to the 310 at annual this year. Annual isn't due until January, but I'd like to start thinking about which one to buy now.

If anyone who's done it wouldn't mind posting a few pictures, I'd appreciate it to help decide which one to buy and orientation/placement.

Here's what our panel looks like at the moment:

What's missing in the picture is the clock and (currently inop) radalt on the left side. At the top of the picture is pretty much where the top of the instrument panel is. The round style of the Alpha AoA appeals to me the most, but would also require cutting a new hole in the panel. It would also mean that it's out of my view when I'm on final, which is when I would most need it. So obviously that's not preferable.

Appreciate the pictures and ideas!

I have both a chevron vertical mount and an electronic horizontal mount (Alpha makes an adapter that feeds multiple displays) in the plane now, because I bought the unit for dealer display purposes. I'll probably keep the chevron because it's like those in the jets that I'm accustomed to using.

The AoA in the -10 feeds into the Advanced Flight Systems display and is the 'chevron' style display in the upper lefthand corner of the display. There is also an audible warning "Angle! Angle! Push! Push!"

I've been told the best place to put it is not in the panel at all, but on top of the glare shield. This way you can see the display and still look out the window without too much movement of your head.

I too am interested in adding an AOA indicator to my plane. I plan to put it on top of the glare shield. I'm more concerned about the calibration process.

ok I found some..
From a Convair ( i know you like those )....

Unless you can get it to the left of that airspeed indicator somehow - I think the only other place is going to be on the glareshield like a lot of the installs I've seen. It's going to be worthless if it's not in your vision while landing.

The Alpha Ultra looks like it would probably be thin enough to fit between the Aspen and glareshield. I need to measure. That would be in my vision and much more attractive.

Exactly.

That's what I like about the audio warning in the headphones - you don't have to look at anything to know when you get close to stall. The 'Angle Angle Push Push' lady comes on a little before stall - but far enough in advance that you can react if you need to.

As an added bonus, if you land too fast, she will keep yelling in your ear until you slow down to the point that there is zero lift available. :)

I just talked to my shop about installing one during the annual next month. I thought with things opened up it would be cheaper.... Nope 1-2 hours saved was the guesstimate. I still might do it just to save the downtime, decisions.
