The title says it all. I've long advocated that classified posts shouldn't be allowed until a member has 25...50...100...whatever...posts under their belt. This keeps newbies from joining just to scam/bilk the membership here.

So...whaddaya think?

If the majority is okay with "zero post count members" placing classified ads then I'll STFU about it.

I'd say there should be a minimum post requirement....

But that is assuming that legit actors are going to be posting things that actually contribute.

All it takes is some clown pushing his products to post on 50 threads "Wow. I learned a lot." And boom. Classified section unlocked and boards cluttered with 50 useless posts.

At least with the current system we can ignore them in just that one section.

I believe it disingenuous to say that any new member that posts to the classifieds intends to scam and/or bilk our members. Some may come to us in order to offer a product or item they have for sale to our members. We don't endorse anything for sale, so it is purely up to the member to decide of the item being offered is of value to them. For those posts that don't pass the sniff test, any member is allowed to report them and we can investigate and remove anything that doesn't meet our RoC. The RoC is the ruling document. If they don't violate the terms of the site...then why should an item offered for sale be any different than asking for our members to participate in an educational survey?

who cares? it's just like any other thread, if it doesn't interest you, don't read it. buyer beware here or anywhere on the internet.

I did NOT say that.
You're right. I first (mis)read it (and replied) on my phone.

I guess I just believe that we have things in place to handle posts that could potentially scam/bilk our members. I would also be the guy that would have to figure out how to configure the board to disallow it. :D

I think that anybody that wants to scam our members would just make the post outside of the classifieds and we'd be left cleaning it up using the same methods.

Is it doable? Or a pipe dream?
Probably. I'm just not convinced that 1) it will solve the problem or 2) that there is a problem to solve in the first place. ;)

But I'm just one guy giving one opinion. We always try to listen to our members.

Let 'em post as soon they want. WTF cares? Like eman says, don't read it if you're offended or disinterested.

Someone who is a "new member" might be advertising an item that an "old member" wants. The benefit is not just the seller's.

I'm offended and disinterested in most posts and yet I keep coming back for more. Heard there were dick pics here

Ok, I'll stop now. Couldn't resist. Wife and kids left me at home alone for three weeks.

Golf!! Come on. We can grab drinks with Mark afterwords... Unless he plays

interesting..........this weekend is out but maybe the following weekend. wait, why no drinks if he plays?

Heading to Ft Lauderdale for 4th of July so next weekend out.

Meant he was having drinks. Just not after golf if he plays golf cause he would be drinking with us o bathe golf course. Only met him once and didn't ask him if he played golf when I was crying about being a ****ty student

Don't play golf but I'll "pilot" the cart and hand out brews to you and eman, one for you, one for eman, two for me, repeat. Deal?

How does one get a sweet deal like that BTW? :confused2:

I mean, sometimes I can get rid of, I mean suffer w/o my SO for a few days, but man, 3 weeks! Heaven! Even if she leaves the dog with me.

How come the poll doesn't have a choice for "don't care"?

Of course it is doable (depends on the size of pipe you're smoking :D ).
Good forum SW has a provision just for that. Not sure whether Zen-4-o does, the admins can answer that.

FWIW, many forums out there require a minimum number of useful posts for new members before they are allowed to sell anything in the classifieds.
Other forums charge commercial sellers to cover the running expenses.
Perhaps we could look into some of these smart solutions?

Now, I am going flying for the weekend and socializing with other pilots. When I get back, I want to see it done, mmkay? :D :D :D (j/k of course)

Seems to be a solution looking for a problem.

I don't let those little things get to me.

Tim,
Consider this. I am a new member by join date and post count. One of my first posts was to the classifieds. However, I had lurked on this board for a little while before joining -- and hopefully had gained from the community knowledge and discussion. The reason I don't post often is two fold 1) I work a job and don't have the same kind of time to kill on the internet that some seem to have, and 2) others have usually said the same thing I would have said and have usually said it more articulately. Furthermore, since many threads seem to diverge into arguments, when at that point, I don't feel the need to add fuel to the fire. If there were a rule that you much reach X informative posts before being considered a worthy member, I would likely not meet your threshold for a long time.

mfisher, I will vote to keep the welcome mat out for POA members like you. So:

Welcome!

I'm a top option guy.(immediate available)
Keep in mind I'm fairly new here

@mfisher

I understand and agree in your case. It's my experience that you're not the norm though. We've all seen many scams posted in the classifieds by "new members."

My request is just my way of saying that I care about this community and really don't want to see anyone get f***ed by a newbie scammer.

I guess others don't share this sense of community yet...which I truly feel only comes after attending numerous fly-ins and meeting dozens of the people who frequent here. I've likely topped 100...hell, maybe 200.

Similarly, I think the MC should crack down on certain members who run around this site (outside the classifieds) hawking their (typically overpriced) products every time they see an opening. Screwing the unsuspecting.

Seems like both causes are lost though..."community" hasn't been in the average murican's vocabulary since at least the 70's.

So f*** it, I won't mention either again.

<fingers crossed>

I'm new here, but own/run a website w/forums.

We've also done a post count AND/OR time to unlock the ability to start a new thread in classified. And of course if there's a new member that one of us knows, we can override the restriction on a case by case basis.
