I heard on the Internet and from others that I should not upgrade to the latest iOS 8 system with my iPhone 4S because it may cause some kind of hardware or software problems with it. I have the latest version of iOS 8 called iOS 8.0.2, which claims to have improvements and fixes all the bugs that were caused by the previous versions of iOS 8.

Is it safe to upgrade to iOS 8.0.2 for iPhone 4S?

I think it's still a battery killer

I updated recently, have not had any problems.

I updated Monday on my work phone, I haven't messed with the features much as I rarely use this phone except for calls. I have noticed that the battery does drain faster, not rapidly by any means though.

Most are recommending that those with the 4S stay away from iOS8.

On my Ipad Air and Iphone 5S both have issues, app crashes, slowness and screen rotation doesnt seem to work all the time. We have Iphone 6 and 6 Plus for testing at work and the amount of reboots needed and app crashes is very noticeable. I would wait.

I had 8, then 8.01 and now 8.02 on my iPad Mini Retina and it is pretty much unusable now. Wifi works for about 30 seconds and then stops. I really really HATE Apple and only bought the Mini for the aviation app universe that hasn't developed as fully over on Android.

Is it safe to upgrade to iOS 8.0.2 for iPhone 4S?
I would say this is the wrong question. The question with any new software or upgrade is "Why should I?" If there is no pressing need, don't. It is the guys out front who have the arrows in their chests.

Upon further googling of the iOS 8 update, it sounds like a really bad idea. I wish I had waited because it will likely take hours to un-screw my ipad. I'm really upset.

I don't understand your question. You are asking about whether or not it's safe to upgrade to 8.0.2 but you also say you already have it? :dunno:

If you already upgraded to 8.anything, yes, upgrade to 8.0.2. 8.0.1 was the one that had the big problems. 8.0 didn't have the HealthKit support in it and also had some more minor problems that they tried to fix with 8.0.1 and screwed up. If you're on 8, you should be on 8.0.2.

However...

This. The 4s is 2 years old now and if you haven't already upgraded to 8.something, I would not do so. Like any major new release with lots of new features under the hood, it takes more power to run it and you'll likely not be happy with the performance of the 4s after the upgrade.

I suggest that if you aren't doing the 2-year hardware upgrade cycle, that you not go more than one major OS version above what the hardware originally came with. Thus, I wouldn't go higher than iOS 7 on a 4s, higher than 6 on an iPhone 4, etc. With that "rule" in mind, I would only upgrade to 8 if you have the following hardware:

iPhone 5, iPhone 5C, iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, iPhone 6+ (the last two came with it)
iPad Mini, original or Retina
iPad "4", iPad Air, iPad Mini, iPad Mini Retina.

Thanks for the advice. Sorry I should have worded my original question properly. I have the iOS 8.0.2 already downloaded automatically to my iPhone 4S, but I did not install the iOS 8.0.2. It's ready to install if I wanted to. I was debating whether or not I should upgrade, but I think I will stick with the iOS 7.

Yes - If you're still running 7, stick with it.
