The longer a thread on PoA that Kent is involved in goes, the probability of an Apple product or Steve Jobs being mentioned approaches 1.

Really, a first airplane thread turns into a MacFest?
:cornut:

I'm waiting for the iPad app where you use the iPad like a yoke and the screen shows instruments... like a flight sim.

I had to go back and read it to see how that happened - It started with a discussion on C/S vs fixed pitch props, I said something about how it'd be nice for FP to have MP gauges to make it easier to understand for new pilots, Ron said he had one by virtue of being equipped with the EDM 930, I said I hoped the UI was better on it than the EDM 700 (still didn't mean to turn it into a Mac thing there - It's just that being an iThings user has made me appreciate how powerful a good UI can be) and then it descended into a discussion of buttons or lack thereof which of course brought up the original Mac mouse and the iPad. Doh!

But, while my presence certainly does increase the chances, I would hardly say they approach 1. I've been participating in many threads that haven't gone down that road.

Yet, anyway. :cornut:

X-Plane - which is a flight sim, not "like a flight sim" - has been out since the first day that the App Store was available for iPhone. On the iPad, it's both somewhat easier to control (thanks to the larger form factor) and a lot easier to see:

As Richard posted, you can also view in-cockpit and fly the gauges. When you look at the map, it has the frequencies for the VOR's and localizers, so you can tune the radios and fly the gauges.

It definitely helps that Austin Meyer (the author of X-Plane) is a GA pilot.
