Share your bird strike stories

Myself, none. But back when I was a student in the pattern doing touch and gos,
a USAir commuter Beech 1900 came in to the pattern and then announced a bird strike... identified as a seagull.

Tower asked if he should roll the equipment. "No, the plane is flying just fine.... but you might want to check on the bird, though...

We have had many close calls below 3000' agl. Two fellow RV'rs hit birds that went through the windshield flying at 140 kts and 160 kts. The reason we try to stay under 125 kts(Va) and keep the landing lights on below 3000' agl. I also keep spare prescription glasses on the left side of me. .

Hit them quite often. Usually maintenance that tells us about it during their post flight inspection. Usually don't hear them hit either. Hit two last night.

There I was over Macho Grande at twelve-five in my trusty 152. I heard a thump and the aircraft yawed left. Right rudder corrected the yaw. I couldn't see the damage but knew I'd been hit and I finished the mission. Landed, got out for the post mission walk-around...sure enough, there it was, a turkey buzzard impaled on the trailing edge of the wing.

:D

You mean he got you from behind? I know 152's are slow, but...........:D

I have yet to suffer a bird strike while flying (knock on wood). The closest that I came to my knowledge was returning to my home field after passing my MEL in a Duchess. A large raven came right at me and before I could react it somehow flew between the fuselage and LH engine. I have no idea how it made it through that gap.

Not in my plane but had one in my truck. Hit the top of my windshield at freeway speed and the thing EXPLODED like a feather pillow busting open.

I had to laugh cuz I thought that only happened in cartoons!

I had that happen in my car.. was driving down the road and a pigeon flew up into the bottom of the car. POOF, feathers everywhere.. my stepson and i got a good giggle outta it
