Do the right thing and go back and tell him you were wrong and he was correct. It builds respect and trust.
We met in the middle. I told him that he was correct if one goes strictly by the list of 31 things and considers the primer a "complex assembly" which he agreed that it is not. He was more concerned that I mentioned this and offered a kit to a pilot right next to me. The conversation happened in my hangar while everyone was admiring my new G5. The pilot next to me isn't that mechanically inclined.
It has now been discussed that the FAA doesn't consider that list of 31 items to be limited to just the 31 items as proven by a letter written in reply to a Learjet owner who complained that he wasn't allowed to check the air pressure in his tires.
