Wow. That was, uh, weird.
Watched that documentary on Rush recently on HDTheatre channel. Nice, normal guys. Except, I suppose, for that unfortunate experiment with robes (you know the picture I'm talking about).

I've seen Rush a bunch of times dating back to 1974. Never been to a bad show and never been disappointed by any of the studio work. As long as they keep playing I'll keep listening and enjoying. I can't really explain the robes thing either but it was the 70's after all. Can't get all that excited about Roger Waters touring the world revisiting The Wall though. You know, the opus about the "wall" that grew between the band and the audience as the venues got bigger and bigger and bigger? As far as I'm concerned the "wall" that exists now is imposed by Waters himself what with ticket prices in the hundreds of dollars. Yeesh.....

I believe you would technically call that a "kimono"... (said in best "Comic Book Guy" voice)
They even wore stage make-up back in the day. I no longer have my copies of Circus magazine to prove it, but I swear it's true.
Something tells me all of that was part of a Spinal Tap-like period of girlfriends and/or wives "styling" the band.
I have always liked the nerdy weirdness of Rush, aside from the awesome crunchy riffs, etc. Alex is definitely not normal... after all, he is also a pilot.

LOL. In the aforementioned documentary (Beyond the Lighted Stage), Gene Simmons was interviewed about Rush and Kiss touring together in the seventies. He said while they were boozing it up and scoring chicks, he saw those guys from Rush were sitting in their hotel room reading books!
Gene was all, "WTF is wrong with those guys?"
