Searching for a Rolex watch video..

I've been searching for a nice time piece and been looking at some Omegas and Breitlings (Rolex is still a bit out of my range). Well my fiance thinks I've gone mad to even consider paying so much for a watch.. Well a few weeks ago someone posted a video (around 11 minutes long) of a rolex being designed and made.. I know an Omega is not a rolex but I just want to show her what goes into a watch of that price range and to think all of that complexity is sitting on top of your wrist... just wow.

Anyways, Ive searched PoA and the interwebs with no luck.. If anyone remembers the thread or can find the video, please share..
 
Rolex is out of your price range but BREITLING isn't?? What Rolex are you looking at!??

always was more impressed by a omega than rolex, rolex is the "expensive watch" for someone who wants a expensive watch, where as something like a omega speedy is more of a professional watch IMO.

omega speedy or speedy pro = pro pilot

Bretling = cirrus driver

Rolex = rap guy, new money, or look at me

;)
 
I'm retired and wear no watch! :D
Flying for the airlines my life was controlled by time, besides, the iPhone has the time if I need it. Most of the time I just use my thumb, pointed at the sun's position....

I've had a Rolex yacht master for about 15 years, a guy traded it in towards a new truck and I bought it. I like the look and feel of the watch, it did take some getting used to because it is heavier than the MM (Mickey Mouse) watch I was wearing. It's more of a piece of jewelry than anything else, if I need to know the time, I always have my phone! :D
 
I have a special place in my heart for a beautiful watch.

If I had the expendable funds, I most definitely would. Any of them.
 
I have a Rolex Datejust. Years ago when I took it in to my watchmaker, P. Sovich. He just laughed at me. It is an expensive piece of jewellery that needs costly maintenance every 7 years.

I wear it occasionally, but never wind it or set it. It keeps terrible time. But, all mechanical watches are worthless for actually keeping accurate time..
 
Cell phone is all I need.

I had a very nice Bucherer self winder back in the late 70's, early 80's, cracked the crystal and quit wearing it... wonder where it went...

Got a Rolex from my employer at the 25 year mark. It's nice.
In the cockpit I wear a 40 year old self winding Seiko Chronograph. It's been a flawless performer all these years.
About 15 years ago, I needed a new watch band. Seiko no longer makes a band that will fit the watch.
My mother taught me how to macramé, so every couple of years I make a new band for it. :)
 
With all of the fake Rollies out there, I'm not sure I'd want one. First thing people think when they see one, is if it's fake or not.

I haven't set my Rolex GMT Master 2 in 3 months and it's still within a minute of real time. It is very accurate just not as accurate as a quartz, but it's a rolex and it keeps with +/- 2 seconds a day.
 
I have a couple of Rolex watches and I like them fine for what they are. But I don't wear them often, especially after a trip to Las Vegas where someone at a booth selling jewelry cleaning solution grabbed my arm. FWIW, I send mine in every 5 years for service.

As much as I appreciate the mechanism and workmanship, I prefer the utility of a watch that I won't feel bad if I lost or is stolen. I either wear my Citizen Ecodrive (great watch, low cost, super accurate) or just rely upon my iPhone for time.

If you're looking for an watch with fine mechanical workmanship, Omega, Rolex, Breitling are fine. If you can swing the coin, the Patek Phillipe is premium. But if you just want to read time, any watch will work.

If you're keen on the Rolex, look for deals on used Rolex watches from well respected (or certified) dealers. A mid-sized DateJust new might be $15K (stainless/gold with traditional bracelet, mother of pearl face with diamond inlays) but a used watch will be 1/3 to 1/2 the new price.
