Sean O'Donnell, Able Flight, Philly Sport Pilot, and Will Hawkins

Check out Will's latest podcast featuring Sean O'Donnell. Our very own Kate Bernard got Sean his sport pilot certificate this summer at Oshkosh and now Sean is going full blast into the sport pilot business. Great to hear his story and plans. I LOVE that you can hear the passion for flying in his voice.

Sean is a great guy, and EXACTLY the kind of person that we really need in aviation. We should support him in any way possible. Philly folks: Go rent that Sky Arrow! I hear they're fun. ;)

Tony,

You can edit your own subject...it's just not totally obvious. Hit "Edit", then hit "Go Advanced". From there you can edit your subject at the top.

It's a neat story. I met Sean a year or so ago when a friend asked one of my R44 partners and me to lend a hand getting Sean into his Pitts for a flight. Nice guy.

Kent, what airport?

It's going to be at Wings Field in the Philadelphia area, KLOM.

I listened to the podcast yesterday. It brought back all the memories of how hard we worked! I enjoyed listening. Sean is always a great spokesman for aviation.

kate,

do you plan any more able flight students? speaking of, what is their plan for instructors (i.e. where do i sign up to be available)? or do they plan to just have all of the students train in georgia (or philly i guess) in Sky Arrow land?

Tony, let's just say something is in the works.

As far as instructors go, I suppose Able Flight might be getting more than a few inquiries after this summer's publicity. As more infrastructure and funding is in place I am sure the program will expand. I have contacted the director about the instructor situation and will let you know what I find out. For now, yes, it is pretty much a small operation limited to a couple places.

For anyone wondering how they can help in the immediate future, the best thing is to make a donation and/or visit the new auction store at http://www.ableflight.org.

Kate, will he be doing a lease back through the FBO at Wings? I know they just got an LSA there?

Tony,

Able Flight is always looking for interested flight instructors. We would love to have the help. Matching students with instructors and the proper aircraft can be a challenge though.
Not all of the students need specially adapted flight controls so special aircraft aren't necessarily a requirement. We sent one student over to a flight school using 601's because he could'nt use the sidestick and hand brakes on the Sky Arrow. Also hoping to send a young lady to Kates place to finish up in the Aircoupe as soon as they can get a mod approved for the throttle.

Contact the director of Able Flight, Charles Stites through the website at www.ableflight.org and tell him that you are interested in helping and what kind of aircraft and/or facilities you have access too. He would like to hear from you. Tell him you know Kate.

And check out their ebay fundraising auction for holiday gifts also!!

Mitch,

I'll email Charles. Not sure if I'll have access to any really special airplanes but would like to get my name tossed in the ring.
