while flying near Lake Murray, SC. I was headed SW at about 1500' when I caught sight of a fast-moving, small object crossing below and to the left of me, almost parallel. It seemed to be moving quickly. Winds were light at the time. It was probably a rogue drone, but it made me wonder, and since there was no positive identification, it was technically "unidentified". It must have been 1000' AGL. Anyway, I'm glad it was at a lower altitude, regardless of what it was.

Maybe it was USC Gamecocks practicing for their opener and it was a football, a zinger sounds like? No? I'm stumped. :dunno:

As if birds and other aircraft are not enough to watch out for. Drones...drones...drones... More than likely what you saw.

A couple of months ago, I was flying at about 4000 msl with my daughter, right at dusk, when suddenly numerous (like hundreds) of watermelon-sized objects went past us...it took me a few tries to finally get a look at one, and saw it was this (and at the same time realized we were flying over an outdoor Jimmy Buffett concert):

Funny thing was, I could of swore they were all moving at high speed in the opposite direction, not nearly stationary as they were...

Max Legal altitude for drones is 400 feet... therefore if it was one at 1000' is was definitely Rogue... And depending on where over lake Murray could have been violating another Reg by being within 5 miles of an airport without authorization...

It was over land, about a mile from the lake, and well outside CAE airspace (as was I). Doubt I would have seen it at 400'. It's size and relative speed was difficult to judge, but it appeared to be moving fast.

I wondered this as well, but it had the same relative motion I would expect when passing near another aircraft.

Maybe something out of North Field? They do some weird and classified military stuff sometimes.

That will teach you to jump in a plane and try to change your latitude and attitude. Did you have a lovely cruise?

They were catered with cheeseburgers, and not wrapped in lettuce Sac!

Update... it was a drone. Checked SkyVector "DROTAMS" and sure enough there's a little blue circle right where I passed by. It's valid for six days. I'll post a screen shot.

Even if I saw one and had pix to prove it, no way would I file a report, I'd be afraid I lose my medical for being insane.

Aireast 31, do you wish to report a UFO?

Negative, we don't want to report.

Aireast 31, do you want to file a report of any kind?

We wouldn't know what kind of report to file.
