San Diego winter

Loved the song. My only connection to San Diego is twelve weeks of Navy boot camp and two days leave in the seventies. I'll always feel like it was home for that short period of time though. Heck, we got to 47 yesterday here in Iowa.

I think that video was made a few years back. Christmas was fairly nice, but it has been a very wet winter so far. Last night we were right their with you, it was 47. 47 may seem laughable to you guys from the north east as far as what we think is cold, but to us San Diegans, it is. We are acclimated for warmer temperatures, we don't have the "gear" that you guys have to keep us warm.

Yesterday and today matched the video, no clouds, plenty of sun, but to us, still plenty cold. Its supposed to rain again this weekend.

I was standing in the induction center at Ft. Des Moines, January 6th, 1970, and we were all getting ready to ship out to Great Lakes in Chicago. It was -5 degrees and the whole Midwest was locked in. A petty officer stepped up and said that they needed six volunteers for San Diego. I was the first to stepped up. Who says never volunteer for anything?

I lived in San Diego from 79 to 90, started in the Navy and stayed on a bit afterward. I live in maryland now as that was as far north as I was willing to go but there are times I smack myself on the forehead and say "what was I thinking" for leaving that place. The only reason I don't go back now is the cost of living well there is really high compared to other places but the weather can't be beat.

For y'all back east enjoying all that cold, n snow, n such, I thought you might enjoy this.

On a business trip to La Jolla years ago in February, we got great amusement seeing some coed walking to class bundled up in a down jacket, mittens, scarf and a hat.

We were just wearing suits.

My last visit to San Diego was two weeks, and I didn't see another bald guy the whole time. Not one. I don't know what they do with them, but I don't think it's safe for me there.
