I'm sure it's known from the SZ, I'm not fond of the Muslim religion. But, I am quite fond of treating people respectfully and equally under our laws, particularly our Constitution.

So, what was so wrong with this discussion on an airliner? I've had it before with others. The interesting thing is the article states they were not allowed to rebook for a later flight and their fees were refunded. Yet, Airtran welcomed the family to travel with them again.

The FBI went out of their way to work things out with the airline for re-boarding after the family was cleared of any wrongdoing. Airtran still refused. I've gotta disagree with Airtran in this matter. They went overboard.

'Safest' seat remarks get Muslim family kicked off plane

AirTran said the family was welcome to fly with them another day, wanna bet this family won't take them up on that?

Personally I think things had already gone too far when the mere mention of the word "bomb" in casual conversation (not "There's a BOMB!") was enough to get you detained. Pulling passengers off an airplane because they talked about safety is absolutely ridiculous. I hope the family sues and wins big.

I guess we can add paranoid passengers overhearing innocent remarks as another hurdle to making a commercial flight along with security delays, check in lines, bad weather, defective planes, missing crews, and flat tires on the way to the airport. I've experienced most of those at one time or another but so far haven't been held up for an innocent remark (yet).

Ah so now they've realized that they could be facing a very expensive lawsuit. That's the only reason they're apologizing. I hope they get sued and I hope it will cost them millions.

Careful Felix lest this gets sent to the SZ.

I'll place a large part of the blame on Airtran in this case. I'll place some blame on the passenger that overreacted to what was heard. I'll throw a lot of blame on the airline and/or TSA that reacted with re-screening every passenger and piece of luggage. That there seems like a silent admission their actions the first time were fruitless and incompetent.

I'll give kudos to the FBI for getting it resolved quickly, about an hour it seems, then attempting to get Airtran to let the family on board.

Maybe the FBI should be overseeing the TSA? I bet a Christmas turkey dang little of the TSA management, let alone its rank and file, could pass the psychological and intelligence tests the FBI requires.

I wonder if two of the pax having bar cards affected AirTran's decision. It is sad that a vicious attack by their fellow religious compatriots comes back to haunt an innocent family. The entire country has lost site of innocent until proven guilty. It's become embedded in our culture now.

This has nothing to do with the SZ - it's an outrageous attack on our civil liberties. The fact that you think it could go to the SZ, ironically enough, just goes to show how much we've already lost.

Your comment about "the US is looking more and more like" is pure SZ material.

Felix FYI,

Ken was just pointing out that on this board the rules are pretty simple. Aviation Politics go in Hangar Talk, all other politics go to the SZ. Discussion of Religion goes into SZ as well. Simple rule and was what the people in the MC decided to do based on the input of the active members of PoA at the time.

IMHO the topic is tettering on the edge of SZ material from several posts and goes over the SZ fence when we start talking general civil liberty stuff. Just as a matter of information there is already a SZ thread on this topic.

Ok, I ignore the SZ, so I don't know what the policies are.

If hangar talk is intended for aviation politics, why was this topic posted here to begin with? If you're going to bring in your views of another religion, make a post in the appropriate forum, instead of "warning" others that it may end up there.

PIC made final decision according to AirTrans.

IMO, sometimes courage is what you DON't do, as much as what you do. Sometimes being safe instead of sorry is the easiest way out. Tough decision either way :frown2:

That's where you exercise some faith in the law enforcement officials who looked into the matter and determined there was no issue.

And, I'd be hard pressed to believe that captain has never had a conversation on the most survivable portion of an aircraft.

IMO right now this thread is borderline. Politics as it affects air travel is still aviation related.

That this treatment was given to someone because of their faith is not. This could have been on a train (hey we're close to the engine) or Bus (wow those tires are right under our seats).

So don't be surprised if this moves to SZ - and don't blame it on just one person's comments either if it goes that way.

Yeah but I thought the new sheriff's in town are the TSA. Seen there cool blue uniforms and metal badges yet? It sounds as if they did not exercise good judgment at all.

I'm guessing that TSA comment in firmly tongue in cheek. The TSA has absolutely nothing to do with aviation safety. I guess if I were the PIC, and the FBI came to me and vouched for the pax, I might reconsider. Then again, I might not.

Yup, that's sure to happen. TSA employees from management on down are convinced that they are the most powerful and important people to ever have held a government job. The TSA, in their minds, is the glue that is holding all of America together. At least them and The Department of Homeland Security.

You can bet that they seriously consider the FBI as nothing more than a bunch of little **** ants who cause more trouble than they are worth. I don't even want to think about their thoughts on the average Joe, or worse yet, GA pilots.

Believe it or not, there's a new TV show coming that's supposed to tell us how Homeland Security is doing such a great job protecting us from the "enemy". Do you suppose this incident will make an early episode? My fantasy is that the producers of the show will secretly blindside the TSA with an expose' of all their idiotic policies and practices that do nothing for aviation safety.

There is one "Thousands Standing Around" clown in the previews. Seems to take himself very seriously, too. I do not hold out hope for your fantasy, although I share it.

The odd thing is of all the people to be at the brunt end- anesthesiologists are always concerned with safety, it pervades everything we do. Then an active attorney, too.

We'll hear more about this for sure.

Maybe because I'm stating a fact about myself rather than an opinion of someone else.

Acknowledgement is the first step toward recovery.

Trapper John

Huh? Is there something wrong with self-awareness and self-actualization? I don't see what 'recovery' is needed. BTW I think acknowledgment is spelled wrong. I don't care for any religion, do I need 'recovery' as well?
