Does anyone else not get these?

Basically alienate every stereotypical person who buys your product, while repeating the name Rob Lowe over and over? LOL

Methinks DirecTV needs to fire their ad agency.

I actually think they are kind of funny, at least they are memorable. :dunno: But, like a lot of ads, they get old pretty quick.

I think they're funny in a stupid way. Definitely helps with brand recognition. Maybe it's the "no publicity is bad publicity" way of thinking.

btw, did you see his cameo in "The Interview"? I thought it was kinda funny, too.

Completely disagree. I think they are pretty darn funny. Each commercial does get old after a while, but then a new one comes along and it's funny again. Scrawny arms Rob Lowe and meathead Rob Lowe cracked me up, bro. I'm the type guy that gets a kick out of utterly stupid stuff though, and it doesn't even cross my mind to be offended by it in any way. I don't see how one could be offended by anything so ridiculous. Of course the people who can't pee in public places sure got their panties in a wad.

The sad part is, I think these are Rob's best performances of his career.

I'm waiting for the "IT Rob Lowe" to come out.......

When zooming through and one flashes by I go back and watch it. The DirectTV ads have always been fun.

DirectTV is gaining subscribers so the ads must be working.

These are ok. They are funny the first couple of times. They have been using the same theme for awhile now.

I really like the dog family in the Subaru commercials.

I just had to go to You Tube to see what these were, I thought they were good, I liked Creepy Rob Lowe. They're commercials, they work.

I lump these into the Planet Fitness marketing style. "You are one of 'us' not 'them' marketing approaches".

Of course, everything in our society works that way. All our jokes, our humor, even revolves around 'them'.

And most cable providers do their best to run off any customers they can!! :D

As does DirectTV. All the providers have terrible customer service. And the $19.95 "carrot" they dangle is SUCH a lie.

The only way to get half way decent price/service from DirectTV and Dish, is to alternate between them every two years.

Actually the best possible price is simply not to buy. ;)

That has been my method for a couple of decades now, seems to work out ok.

It feels so good to be off sat TV. We have fiber optic cable here at M94. Internet speeds of 100 Mbps, plus great TV. Funny, we are way out in nowhere, in some desert! Plus we have the country's lowest power rate 4.5 per KW-hr.

For those into "paper" --- the same tactic applies to National Geographic and Smithsonian mags

I have actually had decent customer service from DirectTV lately, we've had them since 1998 or so. I had a little trouble with a dish on the boat and after an hour on the phone we got it resolved! It turned out the new card and the old card had the same last 4 numbers and that caused some heartburn trying to figure out why it wasn't working! :mad2:

Funny. My dad and I were watching tv the other day. One of the commercials came on with him. Dad asked who is this. (He has a mind block on anything current in pop culture) I tell him, he's the guy who narrated the history channel documentary series World War II In HD a few years ago. He says OH, then changes the channel back to ESPN lol

I think they're kinda funny. Of course, I thought his career was over back when he was caught on video w/ the underage girls. It just skyrocketed after that. And he is a great actor.

As for DTV's cust. service, the only thing I don't like is that no matter what problem you call with they try to trouble shoot it over the phone with you. I don't pay for their service so I can be their surrogate tech. Just freaking send someone out to take care of the problem.

I called them a few weeks ago because I'm on autopay with them and my bill has been all over the place the last 6 month, even though I have had no changes. No kidding, there's a $55 difference between the lowest draft and the highest one. I called and their rep didn't have a clue and couldn't figure it out. Finally he just offered me a $25 credit on this months bill if I would let it go.

Uhhh, by what measure? His list of personal acting accolades is exactly zero if you remove the award for the entire ensemble on West Wing, where he was lackluster compared to a number of others.

I guess he makes a good choice for a cheap TV commercial guy, though.

West Wing, IMO, was the series ever on the big 3 network tv. And Lowe had the range covered. He could be funny, serious, deadpan, intelligent. Some of my favorite scenes were:
* when he didn't realize Leo's daughter was the teacher and told her just how bad his day had been and included the part about accidentally sleeping with a hooker.
* playing chess with the president and the president is trying to get him to think three moves ahead about a political situation with another country, China I think.
* Trying to nail the perfect wording for a birthday card for an ambassador.

But he had a lot of incredibly funny lines delivered with a straight face. Yeah, I know, most of the credit goes to the writing. But still, no one else could have played the role better.

It "meathead" Rob Lowe really him? If so, he's in good shape. It did not looked photoshopped.

Unrelated Rob Lowe story...he is the spokesman for one of our clients and was attending an event where we were unavailing a new commercial that he was in. We are all standing off to the side with radios and ear buds running the event. Rob is sitting in the front row watching his new commercial on a big screen and over the radio we hear "Man, I could watch Rob Lowe watch Rob Lowe all day long".

There was laughter suddenly coming from every one in radio as it came from one of our male (and straight) video techs.

Given your proximity to a hydro dam, I'm not surprised at your low electric rates. :D
