Well, Joe Areeda has offered to pick me up from LAX for an RON, but due to a medical situation is unable to fly me to Vegas, so I'm sticking out my thumb here, Anyone got a ride on the 31st from the basin to Vegas?

Joe has requested the pickup location in this order of preference, KEMT, KWHP, KVNY.

I can take you to Vegas from any of those aprts if you don't mind riding in a Piper Cherokee POS. In fact, it would be my honor.

Are we trying to get you across the country, Henning? I can come get you from Vegas and take you somewhere if you're willing to ride in a 172....a 172R.

I've got a friend in Vegas I'm gonna spend a couple of weeks with, so I'll get back on that when I'm ready to leave there and continue. I'm open to doing something regionaly while I'm there though if anyone is interested.
 
If your headed to St.Louis, let me know, If you can catch a ride to Ada, OK I could fly there and pick you up and bring you back to St. Louis. I have family there so it would be a good trip for me as well.

I do want to do a stop in St.Louis, so we'll get back on that.
 
Henning...will you PLEASE take pictures and post them along the way. Or even blog it say something like "Where in the world is Henning?"
 
Henning, I can get you a flight from St.Louis to Atlanta/Chattanooga/Huntsville area with a stop in Clarksville if you don't mind acting as a safety pilot fo my brother in-law (he has my plane and is working on his IR).

I am at your service...anytime, anywhere. As discussed tonight on chat, freezing levels may be a problem. Today, the briefer said FZ LVL @ 070 in the LA basin. 10,000 east of Banning Pass. Here's hoping they don't drop blo 070.

The fact I left my cell at Havasu presents a problem. I'll call you on Tuesday evening. Or leave me a POA PM, I'd get that faster than my stupid e-mail account can deliver.

That's not a problem to stay below, we can just shoot through the pass at Palm Springs. Never really need 7000', don't even need 5000.

If you get dropped in Chattanooga, pending getting my hands on something that flies, I can get you further south towards FL.

Since it's unlikely I'll be able to offer Henning a useful ride on his trip my contribution was to start a thread about the journey from down under to Florida. The thread is in the "Flight Following" forum which seemed most appropriate WRT the literal meaning of the forum title.

The thread title is "Henning's Odyssey".

Hopefully all pertinent information about the trip will be chronicled there.

Quite true but I was thinking of the decreased vis that often comes with with the lowering fz lvl.* 5 nm HZ is still a good day in the north east section of the basin although it is more than enough.

*Based on observation. I still haven't figured out the local wx patterns here. It can be all across the board on any given day.

I used to fly LGB-Vegas several times a week for a couple of years. It was quite rare when it couldn't be done VFR, but if it can't, it can't. Mostly only have to wait a few hours. You can even fly low next to the 15 and there's only a few hills to avoid between the coast and the pass.
