Retirement Thoughts: Boise Idaho Area?

Just... wow. The ego and arrogance on display here just blows me away.

You do realize that the US is a free country, right? As in, people can decide on their own where they may or may not want to live. The right wingers (I assume that includes you) will loudly trumpet "FREEDOM!!"... but if someone from California or Oregon wants to move to Idaho, all of a sudden their freedom doesn't count?

Please, go crawl under a rock with your "holier than thou" attitude.

Wow I think you may need to re-read my posts or brush up on your reading comprehension. you bet.....anyone is absolutely free to move wherever they would like. Just boggles the mind and I don't understand why anyone would want to move someplace and be around people with such differing viewpoints. That's all I am saying. It's a head scratcher for me.

I dunno, sounds like there might not be much for him to work with there.

Nauga,
who wonders why people insist Californians can't run their own state but can easily take over others

Didn't insist anything as to how Californians run their state. It's simply 180 degrees from anything the majority of Idahoans want anything to do with. And yes, if they continue to infest us at the rate they have been, they will "take over".

You know what a Double Coyote is dontcha? That’s when you chew the other arm off to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

Please please pass this bit of wisdom onto your fellow eastern Oregon and Washington Comrades!

Nope, I didn’t miss his point at all; his intense dislike for “outsiders” is on full display. I guess only the “proper” type of groupthink is allowed in Idaho?

You perceived my post as personal attack? So, it’s okay for MtnMarcus to rip on people from California or Oregon, but I can’t yank on his chain a bit? Well, ooookay then.

yank my chain all you want. Help me understand why anyone would want to move to a state (or anywhere) that is what it is because of beliefs that are directly opposite of the Sh**hole they are leaving?

yikes. Guess the language of cultural grievance is alive and well up in here.

The adherence to the notion a place should remain culturally and politically static because "I wAs hEre fIrSt" is a swan song. A living anachronism.

I'll let the great American poet Carl Sandburg, someone whose sentiments and life ideals very much parallel/track my own (and who ironically, was part of the invasion force of my native home), make the point for me:

From "The People, Yes"

"Get off this estate."
"What for?"
"Because it's mine."
"Where did you get it?"
"From my father."
"Where did he get it?"
"From his father."
"And where did he get it?"
"He fought for it."
"Well, I'll fight you for it."

:D

Each county has multiple taxing districts that separately establish budgets annually and then apply a millage rate applicable to your property. ...
Having owned homes in three different states, that doesn’t sound much different than I’ve experienced in each of those states.

We’ve got seven different entities being collected by two different assessors. Since this is a homestead, our annual appraisal is limited to a maximum of 10% increase over the previous year and a 3.5% mill rate increase.

While my property taxes may seem high compared to other states, we have no personal income tax and my total burden here is less than the other two states we lived in that had both property and income taxes.

Here’s the top of the official list.

I dont find those generic lists terribly helpful. As heterogenous as states are internally, statewide pronouncements on 'healthcare' or 'affordability' are near meaningless. And whether other people are obese has very little bearing on how your own health will fare if you moved there. Its not like people automatically lose weight if they move to Colorado. There are of course statewide factors to consider, mostly income tax considerations. Property taxes (and values) are so vastly different that 'this vs. that' comparisons on a state by state basis mean very little. Just to pick Virginia as an example, you can live in McLean and you can live in a holler in coal country, its all the same ranking on those lists.

I never understood the need to escape the disaster created in the place you need to escape from, only to try to make the new place into the disaster you had to escape from. It has happened here. Sad, but true.

You are exactly the people we do not want here! Please continue to hold your viewpoints and stay away! Boise and surrounding areas are growing exponentially by people flocking in from California and unfortunately bringing their viewpoints/politics. It completely boggles my mind that someone would want to move to an area that appeals to them in large part because of our politics and beliefs when their belief system is a complete 180.

As far as hangar space, forget it unless you got on a waiting list 8 yrs ago. Most beautiful country in the world IMO and some of the best flying anywhere.

You are not alone on the sentiment. How many people do you know from a red state that are planning on retiring to a blue state? I've never heard of any...
