Hey everyone. Just requisitioned a C150G for personal use and training. It has (2) KX-145s. Neither of them work. No troubleshooting has been done yet, and we do intend to narrow it down as soon as we can. However in the spirit of planning ahead, I'd like to gather my options.

1) Is there anything that is a plug-n-play replacement? Kind of like the TKM Michel radios for the 170 series and Arcs? I have a feeling the answer to this is no.

2) What would be involved to replace at least one of them with something along the lines of a 170B, MX-170, 155, or other Nav/Com? Flip-Flops would be nice, of course.

A few years back I was having issues with my KX-175B. I did the troubleshooting and swapping for awhile, then I sold my spares and had a Garmin SL-30 put in. All is fine now.

I know it costs a bit, but crisp, clear comm is a real treat while flying. I'd also suggest a reputable avionics shop over the local A&P for any installation work. You may have some wiring issues to upgrade too.

I wouldn't waste my money on anything with a Bendix King logo on it, new or used. They're fairly clear that they don't want to reasonably support existing users of their products. Used KX155s can be flaky and expensive. I'd go with an ICOM A210 or similar.

I have the perfect radio for you. The King KX-125. Digital, flip flop and built in CDI.

I just happen to have one that I removed from my plane because I wanted to have a second CDI with glide slope and needed rack space, so I got an SL-30. Radio and tray- $950

That looks like a great product and price. I will get back to you once we discuss.
