Rep. John Mica, the Florida Republican who helped set up the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) after 9/11 but has made no secret of his hatred for it, today called the agency "the little bastard child I created."

He said the agency is out of control, has far too many screeners and highly paid bureaucrats. Mica said, "The bad news is I created them after 9/11, the good news is I am now chairman and I will get them."

He said he created it. Let's see what he does. The TSA seemed like a good idea to a lot of people at the time.
 
Um hmm. Expect him to increase its budget.
 
Mica also is the one who pointed out that his original legislation allowed airports to hire private security and encouraged airports to do just that. Orlando did. Then the TSA decided they weren't going to allow any more of THAT nonsense.

(sigh) Yes, he's a politician, but I'm guessing he flies commercial a lot. I hope his hatred is sincere and drives real action. But, hope in one hand and take a dump in the other, and tell me which one fills up first.

I'll wait and see, but I won't hold my breath. Politicians are often "do as I say, not as I do" types. They also tend to pretend to care about something for a "public" position but then do f*ck-all when push comes to shove.

Nothing will change, at least not for the better as far as the 'civilian" public is concerned. Once you relinquish power over to any bureaucracy, you do not, ever, get it back.

Surely a Member of Congress who says, in essence, "I was wrong when I agreed to that..." is better than one who, confronted with the reality of his folly, says, "No, it was the right thing..."?

Actions reflect character. He can say anything. We'll see if he DOES anything.
