My IA filed a 337 for the removal of the Brackett air filter.

I'm assuming the FAA simply scans this into my plane's file, and won't go back & remove the Brackett 337.

So if I want my 337 file to match the FAA's, I need to hang on to that paperwork.

OTOH, I hate having unnecessary clutter and would love to toss it in the circular file. I don't *think* there's any requirement to keep it... but I really don't know.

Keep it or chuck it in the **** it bucket?

Technically, you need to keep a record of each airframe major alteration per 91.417. At one time you only needed to keep the 337s of the current airframe configuration but that was changed to include all. 337s for components are different especially when that component is replaced. Also keep in mind a removal 337 is not always needed if the original alteration has "restoration" instructions. There's another guidance doc on this but I don't recall what it was.

Teach me about this voodoo. You don't have an air filter anymore?

I don't have that nasty sticky Brackett filter anymore. Went to the "original" style (although it's synthetic fiber instead of paper now) Donaldson.
