And here's why:

Seems there's gonna be a protest and at last year's shenanigans, the Wall was defaced and a veteran was spit on--not just any veteran, but a disabled veteran.

This story was sent out to the members of a special ops association I belong to. Made us madder than hell.

The group defending the Wall will be wearing armbands to identify themselves. Those who are unable to stand with the defenders are being asked to wear armbands with small U.S. flags to show their own communities that they abhor the Fonda-Sheehan tactics.

"We'll be there to act as a countervailing force against the Cindy Sheehan-Jane Fonda march from the Vietnam Memorial to the Pentagon," retired US Navy SEAL Capt. Larry Bailey said. "We will protect the Vietnam Memorial. If they try to deface it, there will be some violence, I guarantee you."

Bailey and thousands of his fellow Vietnam vets are worried that the anti-war protesters will damage the wall, just as they spray-painted the steps of the Capitol at their last march.

The wall is sacred to the men and women who fought in that war.

"It is our contact with our dead brothers -- those who lost their lives in the cause of their country," Bailey said.

Damn straight. And doom on anyone who dares defile it in our presence.

JD, if all y'all need additional manpower let me know and I'll arrange for a posse to make the pilgramage.

I live nearby and work there. Please send me the date and time, and I'll be there, if you don't mind help from a former puddle pirate.

Where can we get those armbands?

Boy, I wish I could be with you guys, J.D. My cousin, a brown water sailor, is on Panel 14E, line 68.

Thanks for standing your--our--ground!

I didn't hear of that... I'm torn between sickened and outraged ... or both at the same time. I can't be there - but thanks for holding the hill, JD - thanks to you and everyone else who can be there.

JD, I'll remember you and the others in prayer.

Joshua Sparling was on Hannity this last week. Hannity had met him while he was still at Walter Reed. Joshua lost his leg subsequent to an explosion in Ramadi during his tour with the 82nd Airborne. Joshua's father left his job to stay with his son. The employer terminated him as a result and Hannity covered his expenses so their home would not be lost.

Last weekend, he was spit on by a male protester. The thing that surprised him most, the man also had a patch on his shoulder from the 82nd Airborne. Others had called him a baby killer.

I'm glad such worthless spitwads weren't around during WWII. We wouldn't have won that war on either front.

That's why we're deploying up there en masse.

If I'd seen that guy spit on Joshua, I would've ripped that phony airborne patch off and shoved it straight up his ass and pulled out it his (expletive deleted) throat.

Word has it that Sparkling is gonna be there, guarded by three generations of special forces guys--from Vietnam, Persian Gulf War and present-day Iraq/Afghanistan.

I got spit on in San Fran first time I came back home in '71. Turned right back around, went into the airport and booked the next flight to Bangkok.

Never, ever thought I'd see the day when American soldiers, sailors and airmen were spit upon and reviled by American citizens after Vietnam ended. But here we are again.

What I never understood about all this is why spit on the soldiers? If they've got a problem, why aren't they up on The Hill or The White House spitting? Since when are the guys at the front responsible for wars? Dumba**es is about the best thing I can say about them, and really the only word I'd want to waste. The rest can be said silently and much more effectively.

Hey JD, I live here too, if I am at home the wkd you are here let me know and I'll at least stop by to say hello. I don't think I'd be a very effective guard though.

Bring your cat! That would probably be a good deterrent. Of course, it may be too cold for cats...

I'm certainly no supporter of the Iraq war, but defacing the wall and spray-painting our capital? No freakin' wonder people keep calling the anti-war folks "America haters!"

That just ticks me off. Whatever happened to truly peaceful protests? JD, these folks SHOULD be walking up and shaking your hand and thanking you before they march up to the capitol. Agree to disagree, sure... But fer chrissakes, they need to at least retain some dignity and have respect for those who have served. We're all human, we're all Americans. Have they really forgotten that? :dunno:

:(

As a man who stood tall against the illegal Mexicans last May 1st, I can say that if I could be there, I'd be there, armed with two fists of fury.

Unfortunately, there's no way I can be there, and I hope that you get to knock at least one tooth loose (rather, I hope you don't have to, and they are a better flock of lefties than last year).

Good luck.

I hate... HATE being lopped in with those idiots just because of my opposition to the war. Many would like to believe that we're all cut of the same cloth, but that's simply untrue. Those people who would deface a memorial make me sick.

I hope it doesn't come to that either, and that the protesters that do show up have the sense and decency to shake the hands of JD and the other veterans that are there instead of doing something stupid. If they do, however, you won't hear me complain about a few skulls getting cracked.

If I could, I'd be there, too. Didn't serve in Viet Nam, it ended before I graduated from college. But I took my share of abuse there for wearing Uncle Sam's uniform in ROTC. Not quite the same thing, but I know where you're coming from. Bust a few hippie heads for me.

Ghery, you probably took more abuse than any of us did. At least we were overseas away from the longhair commie maggots. You were right there, on campus, in an ROTC uniform wearing whitewalls.

As far as busint any hippie heads, that is precisely what we're hoping NOT to have to do.

Instead, we're hoping that when the ****ants see a veritable sea of ex-special operations guys wearing their tridents, and wings and jump wings, and anchor & globe, and unit hats and insignia and whatnot, that they'll turn and head somewhere else besides the Wall.

That Wall is sacred, hollowed ground for me. There are a few too many names on there that I know to suit me.

I'd be happy enough if all the maggots do is yell a little bit. But if they try to defile the wall or soil any of the disabled vets that will be there, there will be problems. Bad problems.

I'm hoping and praying that doesn't happen. The right to protest is a strong and valuable right in this country. But you can also protest responsibly and respectfully.

Regards.

Not doubting you JD but some one acutally defaced the wall?!! I had never heard that! I mean what the F.While I was in elementary school during the war and my dad was USAF but stationed stateside I get a very emotional feeling when I visit the wall and and Totally astonished that anyone would ever harm it. I mean my lord I wouldn't even thing that Roger Moore would stoop that low! Who are these miscreants?

I'm kind of surprised to hear of this also. What Special Operations Association is participating? What chapter?

I've been a member of the local and national Special Operations Association for six or seven years and haven't heard a thing about it. Let me know what's going on and who's participating so I can get the word to the correct guys --or--get into the loop!

Best,

Dave

Did it actually get defaced, or are they trying to make sure it doesn't? I get the Post daily and don't remember reading about that - I would have thought it would be on the front page if not Metro...

There is to be a rally in DC and a few groups are afraid it will be defaced. I have found nothing in the news that said it was defaced.

The recent incident involved protesters painting something on the Capitol Steps (the stones, not the musicial satire group). The operation CowboyPilot is speaking of is to make sure that when a similar group protests at the Wall, that none of them get overenthused and do something to the Wall or the surroundings.

I remember the wackaroonie who threw red paint on the Enola Gay when my museum (yes, it's MY museum, and yours too) opened. Just want to impress upon folks that the right to swing their fist (or their paint) stops at the tip of our noses (or monuments).
