Here are some pics some of you might enjoy. I recently had a long trip:

JQF/SLN/GJT/OAK/CYS/STP/JQF

1-BaseFinal17@SLN.JPG This is base to final turn going into Salina, KS where the global flyer was based on its trip around the world.

2-DNWindclimbout@SLN(2).JPG We got a good climb coming out of SLN, this was taken just as we were turning downwind think we were going trough like 10,000ft.

3-FunClimb4.JPG This is in the climbout of SLN. The Lear31 climbs pretty well, especially if you are light.

4- 747(2).JPG Some 747 traffic passing below us. We were at FL430, nice to be higher than the big boys.

5- 747(1).JPG Zoomed in.

6- Eric&Jamie1.JPG Me and my buddy/fellow co-captain on the ground at GJT for refueling.

7- Lear(1)@GJT.JPG On the ground at Grand Junction CO. GJT

8- Climbout@GJT(3).JPG Climbing out of Grand Junction...nice view.

9- Appch(11)@OAK.JPG Final coming into OAK, Oakland CA.

10- Clouds@FL450.JPG Flying high at FL450 topping some buildups.

11- FlyingHigh2.JPG Instrument cluster at FL450.

Thanks Nick! 2 years ago I was teaching out of a 172 so if I made it theres hope for us ALL!! :)

This is a hijack

Now that we have all the nice stuff out of the way I'd like to mention something that really irks me from time to time.

Namely, corp jet jocks and the way they sometimes treat the 'common' man. F'rinstance, I'm 5 out making for the downwind to a landing at a Class G when I hear a Beech jet announce he's 18 out for the same rwy. I'm in a PA-28 so I'll be watching for him. Dang, he's keeping it hot all the way to the approach because very quickly he's 3 out and a bit high.

I tell him I have a visual on him and will extend the downwind to let him slide in first. Uneventful landings but at the ramp for fuel he won't even acknowledge me except to bark I shouldn't have parked so close.

Well, I was gonna' tell him the hose is only so long and maybe he shouldn't have parked so close to the pumps but the glares I was getting from both crew made me think it would have been futile to say anymore.

That's only one instance, there are others. Eric don't become like this chump.

Now really! Would you ever get onboard a jet with these two guys up front????

Well, they DO have name tags. And they look nice enough. And they look happy. :)

Richard,

You make a good point but if Eric ever starts acting like that I know a couple of low-life piston engine pilots who will straighten him out. :) I don't think it's in his nature.

I think you do the right thing extending the downwind to let the corporate guys land. I do the same thing. I'm burning about 7 gph and they're burning... well, I have no idea how much but I know it's a bunch. And generally I'm just out goofing around so an extra two minutes is just an excuse to fly more. But, like you, I do appreciate being appreciated. Since most of my experience is with Wal-Mart jets (or Wal-Mart vendor jets) I have to say they are the best when it comes to being friendly, courteous, and grateful.

I hope your experience isn't that the majority of jet-jocks are butt heads. Mine is just the opposite... the majority are just trying to do a job and are grateful for anyone who makes their lives a bit easier. Only a few actually believe they walk on water.

Yeah... but I they also look 12!! Or maybe I'm getting to be an old fart

Just kidding, Eric. Cool pics. I got to sit in the cockpit of a Learjet looong ago, and was most impressed. Must be a ton of fun!

Hey Joe,!

I get up to PA A LOT! Where in PA are you? I get to ABE, PNE, ERI, MDT, PHL, AVP, and THV a couple times a year each are you close enough for lunch?

Oh yeah, I can easily get to any of them except ERI. That one would have to be on a weekend, and with a bit of warning at 250 nm away. I'd love to meet for lunch when you are out this way

I have first hand knowledge that Eric has first hand knowledge what can happen when a "corp. jet jock" shows indifference to a piston-ator....RIGHT, ERIC???

Aahaha My "Counsel" has advised me not to comment at this time on my Anti-Chumpness. Any remarks previously made have been stricken. Hahah yes Steve I remember that well.....good times...good times.....

I know an old fart who like to tell the tale of a similar encounter. He calmly walked up to the jet jocks and said, "Boys, I don't like your attitude and I'll kindly thank you to buy your fuel elsewhere from now on. You'll be getting none here today." He then turned and waved at the guy on the fuel truck who waved back. The jet crew was fuming at this point and eventually departed for fuel elsewhere, the old man holding his ground.

Guess they learned not to tick off an FBO owner that day.

The fuel truck driver came over eventually and asked, "What did those guys want?" The old guy answered, "Lost I guess. I gave them directions. Go ahead and top her off." Fuel truck guy says, "Ok, fill 'er up. You fly in here often?" "Nahh, first time here." he replied.

:D

Hope it's OK to hijack this back again (and on a more positive note, I hope.) :)

Eric, I have a question about the IAS. I was wondering why the IAS indicates a different airspeed on the dial according to the hands. It looks like you're going 466 KTS on the FMS. I noticed this on the ride I took in the Premier, too.

BTW, thanks for posting the pictures; they're great. It's wonderful that you enjoy this kind of flying, as well as flying low and slow in your Champ. :)

Wow they are way up there, look how low that barberpole is. The ehsi (and the fms) shows GS i think.

OK, bear with me here; I'm so clueless. :)

The IAS shows 205 KTS?

Nice Pictures Eric!!! I just got back from three days in Marathon, FL. I wasnt as impressed as I thought I would be. I did eat at Crabby Dicks though, that was a highlight! :) Hey if you think that is a hell of a climb rate, some play with me in our baby jet, LR24. You will peg that VSI out all the way up to the 30's. You wont have any idea what you are climbing at. LOL I have a picture somewhere of the tip tank at a high angle but low AOA for those of you that are thinking were are doing something dangerous. :) Too bad we dont fly it much anymore but it sure is a kick in the pants when we do.

ON the other subject of crappy jet jockies...I have seen them too. Now that I am one, I try and not to be one. I still love every hour I get to have in a piston even though the job doenst allow me much time anymore. I really miss it and charrish it when I do. Beechjets and heavy loaded Learjets will come in pretty fast b/c of safety speeds. I ALWAYS thank any piston job that lets us land first. However, I would do that if I was flying a piston twin or single. It's just what a good man would do! :)

I need to start on Rudy to have him come and bless me with some piston time. I am headed to Mountian View, AR this weekend, maybe Chip needs to blow off the dust and take me there. :) Gnaw, I guess not enough room for Dawn and I.

Brent
