Reasonable Headsets

BAD advise Ted....
When I had my 11:1 540 powered Christen Eagle that was turned up to 3000 rpm's it was the loudest airplane around. Engine was loud and prop tips went supersonic. It was so loud the airport manager was on my case to quiet it down. I tried David Clarks, Bose, Zulu's, Beyerdynamics, Telex etc... I sell headsets so I have access to them all. My ears would ring 3 days solid after a 15 minute flight. I saw all the aerobatic guys were going to Clarity Aloft... Those are the loudest planes. I ordered a Clarity from my buddy Marv Golden. He said I was crazy, they were for quiet jets. LOL!
The Clarity aloft was the best I found for high noise. No more ringing ears at all. They were quieter than David Clarks with earplugs.
You do not get any better for high noise applications.

I apologize that my experience offended you so. ;)

I could see it working for VERY LOUD airplanes. The in-ear part seems to dampen different frequencies better - each headset has its strengths. In the 310, the Clarity Aloft was noticeably louder than the Zulus (the 310 is not particularly loud, but you do want a headset when flying it). In the 414, the Zulus do almost nothing. While I haven't flown it with the Clarity Alofts yet, they will be my standard.

Thanks again for the continued information. I think I'm going to give the QT Halo a try. Haven't heard a bad word about 'em, and they're pretty reasonably priced. I'm sure they'll be more than adequate for me as the six cylinder continental in the 182 is pretty quiet in cruise. The lack of head sweat is a pretty big deal too. Summers days here in OK are regularly 100+, so anything that might make one feel even slightly cooler is a big plus. I may try a set of Flightcoms for the passengers.
