Hey all, don't mind me, just posting to hear myself type for a bit. Currently slogging through a frustrating purgatory, in which I'm anxiously saving up to buy my own plane eventually. My antsiness is only amplified by the fact that I haven't been able to fly as much as I'd like lately due to scheduling and weather conflicts.

Anywho...Can't wait to be cruising at 170kts in my own go-places plane. Definitely drooling over well-equipped Bonanzas I'm seeing for great prices. I'm still a little iffy on how I feel about the V-tail over traditional, but overall I think my heart's pretty much set on the Bo as my first bird. That throw-over yoke also makes me giddy for some damn reason

Alas, should only be another year or two before I can finally stop window shopping and take a serious trip through the listings. Getting the last of my loans and cards paid off and building up an ample airplane maintenance fund. I may even consider an Aztec if I decide to pursue MEL this summer. Til then, I just gotta sit on my hands and be patient while the little devil on my shoulder whispers sweet nothings in my ear.

Fly safe, y'all.

Been there, done that. I looked for almost 15 years before finally pulling the trigger. It took my father passing away in April of 20 to final make me realize life is short and if I dont do it now (at 49 years old) i would never do it. By October of 2020 i had found one and bought it. Havent been more happy in my flying life since then. The freedom of not having to wait on a rental or have it back by a certain day or time is wonderful. I can tell you i also feel i have become a better pilot because before i was only flying about every two weeks due to cost of renting and availability of the planes and now i fly at least twice a week and sometimes more. The freedom is amazing.

Good luck and whatever you do, dont wait too long.

Yup, that's my biggest impetus, I got my license to go places, not just out-and-back for burgers. Not that it's not fun, but I can't wait to take overnight trips without having to worry about when I'm getting the plane back, or feeling selfish for hogging the club asset. Pack a few bags and fly across the country for new adventures. Finally attend something like SnF or AirVenture. Besides, I feel I'm ready to take the training wheels off and get some real performance beyond buzzing around at 100-110kts.

A big big reason why I became an owner.

If the day ever arrives where I can seriously consider buying, I’m leaning towards a traveling plane to go places. However, having a plane to just fly locally is also appealing. Especially when you see someone taxiing by in Extra or some experimental.

Having had access to several owner’s planes over the years, I can appreciate the freedom it brings. On the flip side, I’ve seen the maintenance worries and bills too! Which has taught me that only buy when you’ve got more than enough $ to buy.

Seems more and more like sellers are moving away from the formal online ads and simply going with some type of social media post. Where to look is so fragmented. And you still have the word of mouth deals too.

These days, it seems the prices of used airplanes are increasing so fast it is difficult for savings to keep up!

Yup, what's happened to aircraft values is almost as bad as what's happened to real estate... There's no way that I could afford to acquire my 182 if I had to right now...

Absolutely, the eventual goal is to have both someday. A go-fast cruiser as well as a fun low n’ slow bush plane like a kitfox or something. Maybe even build my own once I finish school and have more time on my hands.

My master life goal is to one day buy some land and build a house with a sensible little grass strip and a hangar or two. Lofty goals but hey, life is too short to not have something to chase after.

I find it interesting that the OP was posted in the wee hours of insomnia.

haha, it’s paid insomnia at least; I work nights :)

Haha, i monitor communications equipment. We're not paid per hammer blow, but for knowing were to smack it when the blinky green lights turn red. There's a fair bit of downtime when everything's working right. I gotta keep stimulated somehow!

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahh! Sensible! Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah! <gasp> Haaaaaaaaahahahhahahahhahaaahhahahah!

Hahaha, the book definition of "sensible" got shredded the second I plunged myself into flight training along with school and full time job. Anyone who says they don't lie to themselves is drinkin' more avgas koolaid than the rest of us :cheerswine:
